Buscan soluciones,
con el racismo hay que acabar,
Y no saben todavía

fuéramos de un color distinto,

de igualdad racial.

una indudable verdad:
Olvidamos las pequeñas alegrías
por lograr la gran felicidad.
Son detalles de la vida que

Quizá sea demasiado tarde
cuando los quieras valorar.

Hi! A couple of days ago, I had the pleasure of participating in Hive Open Mic week and shared a song by Alex Ubago that seemed very fitting for the theme (I think). Well, after revisiting some of the tracks on the album, I felt the urge to perform the beautiful lyrics of "Fantasía o Realidad" (Fantasy or Reality), the title track of the album.

It's also true that I discovered this singer-songwriter thanks to the CDs my brother kept. He's always loved listening to tropical music and its various genres, especially salsa and merengue. That's why he had music by "Los Adolescentes" (a Venezuelan band), music by Oscar de León, another Venezuelan artist, and, just for a change, songs by this Spanish singer-songwriter, Alex. I think he also had some music by Laura Pausini, Juanes, and Maná, but I don't remember exactly if my brother or my older sister had those.

It's a song played in G major, and its verses are quite substantial, with several lines forming the entirety of each verse. The song isn't a major hit, but I like that it's also the album's title because it gives this collection a distinct feel from the purely Romantic trend.

This piece of music feels like a personal reflection by the author, questioning various aspects of life. Themes such as hypocrisy, manipulation, and false political promises regarding poverty and racism are not only part of the song but also its central focus. With great irony, the composer declaims lines like, "Why measure time if our destiny is to wait?" questioning that peculiar way in which our humanity finds it easy to actively procrastinate.

Fantasy or Reality

I'm searching in vain for
a single explanation

justifies so much misunderstanding.

If life matters to us
and if we're not so foolish,
Why do we dedicate ourselves
to covering the world in pain?

Why feel certain
if life is all the same to us?

we don't even know if it's
fantasy or reality?

Or reality.

They seek solutions,
racism must end,
And they still don't know
where to begin.

And if all individuals
were a different color,
there would surely still be problems
of racial equality.

Someone once said
an undeniable truth:
We forget the small joys
in pursuit of great happiness.

They are details of life that
offer a different perspective,
Perhaps it will be too late
when you want to value them.
