Hello, @musiczone community, and all the musicians linked in one way or another to Hive Music Festival. I hope that the life of each one is an oasis of faith, love, peace, joy and health that allows well-being in the midst of this very turbulent stage in which we have had to live.
On the 24th of last June in Venezuela, two events were celebrated, one historical and the other religious.
The historic one: it was celebrated and commemorated that on June 24, 1821, the "Battle of Carabobo" had been fought, the last land battle that sealed the independence of Venezuela.
The religious: the birth of Saint John the Baptist was celebrated (As a curious fact: in our Catholic church only two births are celebrated: that of our Lord Jesus Christ and that of Saint John the Baptist).
And this birth of Saint John the Baptist has religious and cultural roots, its celebration is closely linked to our African roots. At the time when Venezuela was a dependent colony, thousands of Africans were kidnapped and brought here as slaves. Their forced labor was interrupted only one day a year: June 24, St. John the Baptist's Day, was their day off, and they mainly dedicated it to reconnecting with their cultural roots, which is why they spent the entire day dancing and playing drums.
In our current era many things have changed, but the festival of San Juan with drum playing and dancing remains unchanged, especially on the coast in the Barlovento area. So I bring you an emblematic song from that area and whose name is, precisely, Barlovento. Glad for this opportunity to share with you a little of our history and our culture.

Hola, comunidad de @musiczone, y todos los músicos vinculados de una y otra manera a Hive Music Festival. Espero que la vida de cada uno sea un oasis de fé, amor, paz, alegría y salud que permita el bienestar en medio de esta etapa tan convulsionada en que nos ha correspondido vivir.
El día 24 del pasado mes de junio en Venezuela se celebraban dos eventos, uno histórico y otro religioso.
El histórico: se celebraba y conmemoraba que el 24 de junio de 1821 se había librado la "Batalla de Carabobo", la última batalla terrestre que selló la independencia de Venezuela.
El religioso: se celebraba el nacimiento de San Juan Bautista (Como dato curioso: en nuestra iglesia católica se celebran solo dos nacimientos: el de nuestro Señor Jesucristo y él de San Juan Bautista).
Y este nacimiento de San Juan Bautista tiene raíces en lo religioso y en lo cultural, su celebración está muy ligada a nuestras raíces africanas. En la época en que Venezuela era una colonia dependiente fueron raptados miles de africanos y traídos acá en calidad de esclavos. Su trabajo forzado se veía interrumpido solo un día al año: el 24 de junio, día de San Juan Bautista era su día libre, y lo dedicaban fundamentalmente a reencontrarse con sus raíces culturales, por lo cual pasaban todo el día bailando y tocando tambor.
En nuestra época actual muchas cosas han cambiado, pero la fiesta a San Juan con el toque y baile de tambor se conserva inalterable, sobre todo en la costa en la zona de Barlovento. Así que les traigo una canción emblemática de esa zona y cuyo nombre es, precisamente, Barlovento. Alegre de esta oportunidad de compartir con ustedes un poco de nuestra historia y nuestra cultura
