How I Distracted Myself? - Multitasking vs Monotasking
It seems that I am doing Multitasking without realizing it, as I came across a tweet about Multitasking, so I started reading about it and found that I do it without realizing it. After analyzing and reviewing, I found that this causes me to lose a lot of focus, which is why I do not accomplish things.
Let me tell you what happened while I am doing something on the laptop or doing a task, I find myself remembering something else and quickly and without thinking, I move directly to what I am thinking about and do it, then I return to the main task, and so on.
I find myself very distracted, as while I am doing a task, I do 3 other tasks with it, while the main task is not completed, and this causes me a lot of distress, as I do not accomplish anything, and even if I accomplish anything, the quality of the work is very poor.
When I read about Multitasking and found that I do this while I don't feel it, and despite that, some may think that this is a good thing that helps you get things done quickly, but on the contrary, my personality is not for Multitasking. After I sat down to analyze with myself and read about this topic, I found that I am better at Monotasking or Deep Work.
There are personalities prepared to do this, where they do more than one task at the same time, and in the end the quality is high, but for me it is just a distraction. While I open a video to learn Blender, I remember a specific comment or post, so I write it on Hive, and while I write the post, I remember a site I was searching for and go to Google, and so on, and I may go to Coinmarketcap to see currency prices. All of this and not a single minute has passed from the main video that I wanted to watch.
The solution
I do not consider all of this to be Multitasking as I read about it, but it is just some of the mess and distraction, and the solution for me lies in focusing completely on what I am doing, and although it seems easy, I find it difficult, as my mind has become accustomed to going directly to the idea that comes to my mind, and even if I continue what I am doing, I sometimes feel anxious and curious because I have not switched to another task.
I found the solution for me in identifying the tasks that I will do on a piece of paper and then arranging them according to priority. Here I found myself much better, as I did not get used to moving to something of lower priority, and I became focused on what I am doing.
And you also, all you have to do is know your personality first, are you Multitasking or Mono, and if you are like me, you must train yourself to focus on what you are doing and remove any distractions from your mind, and do not leave an important task for another, put it first so that you do not keep thinking about it, and this will help reduce mental pressure and fatigue and help you improve productive efficiency.
good time management
Byung-Chol Han wrote that Multi-tasking turns us into animal-humans, as the need for that specific ability lies within the brutality of nature. Animals have to be aware of their surroundings all the time, and can never rest. We humans evolved out of that, and are able to practice monotasking. That, in Hans view, is why humans advanced so quickly. Not the multitasking, but being able to focus on one thing without being bothered by something wanting to kill and eat us all the time.
You expressed it well
