Music is the Protagonist of Life

Have you ever gone for a program and not have music or should I say interlude played either in the background of the program or as a major part of the program? Have you ever watched a movie without music, just maybe we may have movies like that, but I would say it is rare to find such a movie and even if they do exist, not everyone will enjoy such movies because we all know the effects, anticipation and suspension music has on movies.

Let's take our memory back and try to picture our movies, I am going to be using the Nigerian movie ad as an example, many of us who watch Nollywood can guess or know just by the sounds, music, or rhythm what the next scene is going to be all about and that is why I said that music is life, music is the antagonist of life.

We can not do anything without music, we listen to music when we are in our dark moments, we listen to music when we are in our merry state, we listen to music as a hobby or fun, and we listen to music to distract us and take our minds off whatever is happening to us, music has a way of putting us in the mood, no matter where we are or our state.

While I was in school, I was lucky or should I use the word privileged to be taught the basics of music since I was attending a private school but unfortunately, I wasn't serious with the opportunity presented before me as at that time, perhaps because I was basking in the euphoria that comes with having whatever I want presented to me at a platter of gold and on my feet without raising a finger.

In Nigeria, teaching music is a curriculum and part of a compulsory subject for every student, but as far as I know, if I am not mistaken, such a subject is only taught in private schools, with the right instruments and professionals too but the case is different with pupils/kids in public schools.

I don't know about others but back then, when many artists sang due to their experiences or take about life, many of us listened to their lyrics and built a part of our life around the lyrics of this music because they aligned with our individual goal and ambition and that is why most of us till now, can still remember the lyrics of some music that were released years back, we didn't or never really care if those lyrics were wrong but as long as they aligned with us, we immediately fell in love with those music and put them on repeat in our playlist, also use them as our ringing tone on our phone.

Whether we accept it or not, music has a way of shaping one life, I remember back then when "Love is Wicked by Brick and Lace" was released, many people including myself ran with that initiative, although not entirely lie but it shaped many of us perspective about love but as we grew up, we began to understand better.

Music is the bedrock on which we stand, lol, I know that sounds funny but if we check around us, we will realize that the world can not work perfectly without music here and there, and without music in the world, the world will be as cold as ice and boring as gray and beige colour.
