Here we have jacaranda trunks and branches leaning against a wall since the tree underwent extensive pruning approximately 5 years ago.

Last October I noticed they had a kind of brown crust with a light margin and I assumed it was fungus.

By taking photos and requesting their identification, I was able to find out that they are, in fact, fruiting bodies of a saprotrophic fungus called Peniophora albobadia.

Al tomarle fotos y solicitar su identificación pude saber que son, de hecho, cuerpos fructíferos de un hongo saprotófico llamado Peniophora albobadia.

They are also called "Giraffe Spots" and the species name comes from "albo"=white and "badia"=reddish brown, because of the colors it has, on the edges and in the fertile part respectively.
