For years I thought some of these characters were women! (Eng/Esp)

Throughout all these years that I have been watching anime, many of the characters who looked extremely beautiful and feminine have managed to fool me into believing that they were women, but in reality they were male characters whose sexuality was not in doubt, as is the case with other characters who to this day have never revealed their true gender (such as Hanji Zoe from SNK). However, as the silly and distracted owl that I am, I fell for it and was deceived, and for many years I had the idea that they were women, at least most of the characters that I will present to you below.
Many characters deceived me, but I will only mention the ones who managed to leave me with a Poker Face when I discovered that they were not actually women, but men who are more feminine than I am and whose features are so beautiful and delicate that they really look like women.

I'll start with two characters from Sailor Moon, Fish Eye and Zoisite. The first time I saw Sailor Moon, I was very young, I think I was around 5 or 6 years old, and I believed that these two characters were women for two reasons: their feminine faces and the Latin American dubbing voices. As if to ensure I didn't fall for the deception, they were both given female voices, and even though Fish Eye's bare chest was shown on one occasion and you could tell it was a man's, I didn't remember that scene and for several years I was convinced he was a woman.
As a teenager, I decided I wanted to rewatch all the episodes of Sailor Moon, and the first character I realized was a man was Zoisite, the one with brown hair, in case you haven't seen Sailor Moon. My eyes widened, and I realized that I had been deceived, and not just me. The original story tells us that he was Sailor Mercury's boyfriend, but here we see him in Kunzite's arms, so Mercury has also been deceived, too bad for her.
Then came Fish Eye, who surprised me even more because there were episodes where he transformed into a woman, so my surprise was even greater when I realized that his sex was actually male. I was too young to realize it. Anyway, he made me laugh a lot when he went after Mamoru and fought with Usagi for his love. These kinds of characters have a lot of charisma and always make me laugh the most. I love Fish Eye, as a man and as a woman, he's beautiful!

These two characters belong to Inuyasha, and I also saw this anime for the first time when I was very young. I don't remember exactly how old I was, but I know I was under 10, so at that age it was easier to be fooled by these beautiful characters, although with one of them the deception didn't last long, but with the other it did.
Several of you are going to disagree with me here, but at first I thought Sesshomaru was a woman. The first time I saw him was in the opening, it was just a glimpse, and since I had already been fooled by several characters in this anime, when I saw him I was convinced that he was a woman. I even thought, “This one is a woman”, but no, he wasn't. As soon as he appeared in the series, he was introduced as Inuyasha's brother, and again I felt deceived, but at least it didn't last long.
With Jakotsu, the opposite happened to me. Here, I had the same experience as with the characters in Sailor Moon. His Latin American voice actor was also a woman, so the first time I saw him, I was convinced he was a woman. Then, when I rewatched the entire series as a teenager, the truth was revealed, and once again, I was left with a Poker Face because it was even more obvious that he wasn't a woman, but I still fell for it and believed it for many years. Even so, I also love Jakotsu, not only because he was a villain and I'm team villain, but because he was very likable and his charisma was captivating, except for Inuyasha because he was pursuing him romantically for the entire time he was on screen.

The anime Fushigi Yugi is already known for having extremely beautiful characters, most of whom have pretty feminine features, but the only one who really fooled me, albeit not for long, was Nuriko. I first saw this anime in my teens with my sister. She had already seen a couple of episodes before deciding to watch it with me, so she already knew that Nuriko wasn't a woman, but she didn't tell me anything. She let me continue to be fooled until the moment of revelation and then teased me for having been deceived by the beauty of this character. You can see the moment of revelation here, and my reaction was literally like that of Miaka, the young woman who is with him and therefore the one who discovers his secret. I identified with her.
Anyway, Nuriko was my favorite character, and I cried my eyes out for him. I won't give any spoilers, but if you've seen the anime, you probably know what I mean!
The last one who fooled me was Asuramaru from the anime Owari No Seraph. Although I suspected that he wasn't actually a woman, that was my first impression of him. Just look at him: with that long, beautiful hair, that delicate face, and his outfit, it's easy to believe he's a woman. I'm sure there will be many more characters who will continue to fool me because that's one of the main characteristics of anime: the beauty of some characters makes you wonder if they're men or women. Or is it just me?
Tell me if there's a character that has fooled you like it did me. I'll be reading your comments!

Hello over there... francamente el género no es algo que me importe... jajaja... pero mira I’m actually a bit out of touch with anime. I don’t usually follow it. Sometimes I find myself watching it on TV, but I don’t worry about understanding the plot; I just do it because I enjoy the aesthetics. But I can say that I think this whole thing—haha—where characters surprise you with those unexpected twists might have to do with certain factors, like the way anime tackles topics that are often censored or stigmatised. From what I’ve read and from my limited knowledge, this genre explores those themes quite a lot.
Also, I suppose that theatrical aesthetic inherited from Kabuki, where male actors played female roles, still lingers in some way. And I agree with you, that element of surprise is definitely another factor. They really know how to play with unexpected twists and turns. I’m no expert; I just base this on things I read. I read a bit of everything, and some of it sticks in my mind.
In fact, the first two anime series I mentioned were released at a time when homosexuality was censored, which is why those characters were given female voices in the Latin American dubbing, to avoid confusing younger viewers (which they succeeded in doing, because I continued to believe they were women until I saw them again as an adult haha 😂)
Japan has always been more liberal with some topics that are considered taboo, as it has demonstrated over decades by making anime that confuse you with their characters haha I don't care about gender, I just laugh because I was surprised to discover that they weren't actually beautiful ladies many years later and the signs were very clear haha 😂
