Oww dont get me wrong, Agile way of work is definitely better - in most cases - than waterfall. But the foundation needs to be done well, as you pointed out. That is where I think for others when I feel I need to, to create a good foundation. And here I get remarks like, Edje, you think too far ahead. I suppose some waterfall techniques have to be applied to Agile to get the foundations correct. Or at least some forward thinking. One of the downsides of Agile is that many peeps in Agile teams say: You have to wait for the next sprint, and can't even guarantee your requested work will be in the next sprint. While at the same time, I have an external customer breathing down my neck. Not that Agile is bad, but many people don't want to think ahead and leave it to others to deal with their own short-term attitude. Therefore, I believe in a mixed system, a not-so-rigid approach to Agile, and also not a rigid approach to waterfall. The truth is somewhere in the middle, at least for most of us.

Indeed, regardless of the methodology, everybody needs to flexible. It is important when designing the system that one doesn't only focus on the happy flow but also takes into account how the system could cope with the unhappy flow.
