RE: Hive Witness Node Back Online

That's a tricky question considering very few people know how it actually works.
It's like driving a car.
How many people actually know how the car works?
Most only know how to drive the car, at best.
It's difficult to know which direction to point you in when it's unclear how much you already understand.
Like knowing the differences between POW and DPOS consensus.
Are you actually interested in renting a server, installing/running the software,
and then trying to get people on Hive to vote for you?
Or do you just have generic questions about how nodes work?
Those are two very different things.

Ah well basically all cryptocurrencies work in this way.
A node is a server that runs the network.
The difference with crypto is that a lot of different nodes all keep track of the exact same database and talk to each other to make sure everyone is following the rules. Those rules include ways to post blocks, which store all the raw data and transactions that occur. In POW it's whoever wins the hashing lottery with mining computers. In DPOS nodes with the most votes get to post blocks. On Hive the top 20 broadcast 1 block every minute. My backup node at rank #42 only posts a block like every hour.
