I’ll have to look into that person she mentions. I haven’t really had any connection to this idea of ikigai, most Japanese people I know just say “beer is my ikigai” when I ask them about it. I don’t think the average person here has a very deep understanding of it and from their perspective westerners make a much bigger deal of it than they do BUT that doesn’t mean it’s not a deep thing.

I have the same experience with the concept of Yuenfen in China. And a bunch of Chinese friends completely get it and we talk about it a lot even though 85% of Chinese people would probably think I’m way too obsessed with the concept
