High KE is a choice? I'm at 17.99!

Recently @meno did his post about "not going anywhere", and of course it reminded me of my previous one. My power down is done now - so whatever people are going to think about a move like this - people who don't seem to read most things I write anyway - they are probably already thinking it.

image.png

@thecrazygm has more HP than @ecoinstant now, and I am super proud of him. Over the last six months he has gained the discipline and determination to not only "write", but document what he is working on in any moment - the excitement, wonder and occasionally even frustrations.

I also use HIVE like this - "just keep writing", as Dory the Fish might say and I think more "builders/developers" could find a way to encounter actual value in this strategy.

Which means, I will never get the "high score"; I didn't really thinking about it, but since I am continuously posting a super leveraged KE ratio is impossible, since I will always be left with the rewards earned in the 13 weeks from a full powerdown. And it seems I have reached that asymptote - 17.99.

"It is what it is"

Unusually high proxy-backing aside, I'm only slightly sad to have sold off my "personal" HP to build my dream toolbox on HIVE. There is a certain pride (ego perhaps?) to being a builder - and maybe that is something that I suffer with. But I am working with others - I have found people that enjoy hanging around me! I am excited about the future, and "we are still here".

But I need these tools, for my own projects on HIVE - pretty much no matter what anyone else does. Other teams are doing good things - check the HIVE Swarm of Swarm update for example. But none of them is doing what we are doing. They are doing their things - which is wonderful (in my opinion).

I'm doing my thing

I have come to realize many things over the last three months. The "politics" on HIVE, for example, are heavily focused on face-to-face meet ups at HIVEfest. This is a reality, that only when people meet in public do they start "trusting" or paying attention to what someone is doing. I noticed it first hand, I suddenly learned what the people I was meeting were up to - what they were building, why they thought it was the most important thing to be building right now, etc etc. A face, for a name.

I'm not sure if I have it in me to do all that. I suppose it happens over time, so we will see what happens. For now I am in Guatemala, I was in Guadalajara. But eventually I need to go home, and stay there for a while. Travelling is expensive, energetically at least - but also monetarily. "The secret to my success" has been low cost of living; that is basically incompatible with travelling around the world.

I'm sure everyone is doing the best they know how. And its just human to put a lot weight on "people" over "users". Its so obvious - once you see it.

image.png

So, we have made some noise, and a few friends. We travelled a bit and build 20+ tools (plus the project builder kit!. And now I have 17.99 KE, and I am not sure that I want to do anything about that - for many reasons, one of which is I still need the cash. We are burning that cash - less than any one I know but still, runway burns. And - such is life. There are a lot of people out there in much worse circumstances, at least we are having fun.

But I am starting to think about my bananas and pineapples, not in a homesick way but in a "I need some cashflow" way. Some moments I want to disappear, but that might just be because I am living in a hotel. Let's see what happens. Maybe high KE is "no big deal" because everyone who "uses it" will look deeply into the issue and the account.

Bear in mind that the Krampus Coefficient (KE for short, for reasons you will now see) is named for a child-beating, child-eating demon in European lore who takes out after children not good enough to get gifts from St. Nick. You are a grown man. Handle your business and do not let people who take cues from child abuse as child's play worry you.

Some people connect more strongly face to face. Some people connect more strongly word to word. If I was at something like HIVE fest, I’d be standing in the corner, talking to nobody, not networking, and would probably feel very unfulfilled and alone in a room, just like I do at other social events and seminars.

I’m a deeply introverted person and not actively social in large groups. I much prefer the chaotic, free-flowing conversation around a bar room table, or at a friend’s kitchen bench, side to side, fist deep in cooking ingredients.

I like to, and prefer to connect with people through the words I use. It takes me a long time to feel comfortable in the presence of someone else, but online, I’ve always been able to engage and have conversations because I know that I don’t need to worry about things like eye-contact, ensuring the pitch of my voice is correct, and worrying about whether people are looking for bits of left over spinach in my beard.

In text, I just communicate better.

My beard is a magnetic collector of food bits - so I know that social stress when I discover that I have ravioli sauce in my beard

I always assumed that on a digital social network, we were all interacting "digitally". But I have come to see that (at the "top" at least), there is more to the story. These guys are flying to Kuala Lampur to drink beers with each other.

Oh crap, now I gotta drink beer too? And fly on a plane? I like either of those things less than feeling awkward in a social setting.

On the topic of beards, I judge the quality of a food place by the volume of napkins they give me. If they don't give me more than a non-bearded customer, they're not getting me to come back again. Call it petty, but cater to your customer's needs.

My needs are more napkins than the smooth-skins!

I would be in the corner with you and soon we would be giggling about people and The People would be wondering why we are laughing and wish they were at the "fun" table......

Then we would go shoot some pool somewhere.

With any luck, the billiard won't leap unexplained off the table and directly into my left eye socket. That would be most unfortunate.

We once had a small HIVE meet at a billiard hall down here in Adelaide, to catch up with someone who was visting from another state. I don't think I am remembered for my prowess hitting spheres with a stick.

I'm much better at conversation, just so long as it isn't spontaneously mundane.

Freedom is dangerous as well. Freedom to do whatever u want, then others have freedom to use their HP not upvote or simply downvote from anonymous or known accounts.

I am not in favour of downvoting for having a bad KE ratio

But still no one can stop me to make my decisions related to whom I upvote, it can be based on KE too.

Just trying to show another side of picture.

Building tools r important, having skin is the game should be a long term plan too.

as holozOr said... if someone only values us for our KE, they probably didn't see our value to begin with. That said, I'm with you. The politics of this platform makes this a needed conversation.

We inherently don't have much value at all. If we were to break down the elemental composition of our bodies we'd only be worth around $30 each, given bulk prices.

Yeah, the KE metric is not one to take seriously. It's YOUR money, use it if you need it. I myself am done with the Hive 'politics'. And yes, it's rubbed a few the wrong way, because I speak my mind, and I power down and use my funds elsewhere, like building a mining farm where politics do not matter. But I am still here on chain and still trying to develop some tools along the way, and I am not funded to do that, so I power down when I need, like I am doing now. So I say if you need to power down to live your life, screw the politics of proof of stake, take your money and run.

Can’t but agree, KE is just a metric. It may tell something about a profile, if there is very little else to go on, but in many cases, especially people as busy and dedicated to Hive as you, it says even less than nothing ;-)
Keep building my friend!
