Expressing my creativity through handmade craft // Diy ballet dancer made from cardboard
Greetings and I welcome you all to my blog, it good to be here again in this community where I can share my creativity with you all and I hope you all are doing great. Creativity is the souls way of dancing with imagination and for me , it finds it's purest expression in handmade crafts. Crafting with your hands has a wonderful feeling of excitement and joy especially when your creation is finally complete, this joy that comes with it is what makes me create more thereby enhancing my crafting skills. Today I decided to make a sculpture of a ballet dancer using simple materials like cardboard and groundnut peels, it was challenging but I persisted no matter what and here's how I made this craft.
crafting materials
• waste Carton/ cardboard
• Groundnut peels
• Pencil
• Eraser
• Acrylic colour
• Gel nail polish
• Scissors
• Paper cutter
• Evostik Gum
• Brush
• Iron
• Correction pen
• Compass
step 1
I began by drawing the ballet dancer on a piece of cardboard, I drew her head, the neck, her two hands and her body down to her waist.
step 2
Then I drew her skirt and her two legs, one on the ground and the other above the ground level.
step 3
Then using my Scissor and paper cutter, I carefully carved out the drawing of the ballet dancer from the cardboard.
step 4
In this step, I peeled groundnuts and used their Peels to form the skirt of the ballet dancer. After peeling the groundnuts, I applied the Evostic gum exactly to the position of the skirt, and I started applying the groundnut peels one after another, arranging it in such a way that the groundnut peels now represented the skirt.
step 5
Here I then coloured my entire craft with my black acrylic colour.
step 6
After doing that, I then used gel nail polish to add beauty to the groundnut skirt. I first polished the lower part of the skirt with a silver gel nail polish and then, I used a light brown colour to polish the upper part of the skirt.
step 7
At this point, I then lightly added white colour to the edge's of the ballet dancer and also added some design to her body also, her hands ,neck, legs and her head were designed using white colour.
step 8
As I proceed forward, I then constructed the base or stand for my craft. I used a compass to construct two circles of equal sizes on a cardboard and cut them out with scissors. I also measure a cardboards 1 inch wide and use it to gum the two circles together. Lastly, at this step, I coloured the entire stand (base) black and had a small white circle at the centre.
step 9
Here I cut a small iron of 6 inches long and gum it to the center of the base made in step 8, I then attach my ballet dancer on the iron using my Evostic gum and masking tape.
step 10
Next I coloured the base of the ballet dancer with red colour and also gum a shinny bias around the circle base, and I made some dots with a correction pen above and below the shinny bias. Finally, I added deep red colour Gel nail polish to the lower part of the skirt
With all the steps finally completed below is my final result.
Handmade crafts have an irreplaceable charm. When I look at my ballet dancer, I don’t just see a sculpture—I see the journey of creation, the struggles, the triumphs, and the sheer joy of bringing an idea to life. And so, with my hands, I continue to craft, to dream, and to dance with my imagination. I have come to the end of my craft and I hope you all do like it, happy weekend to you all.
