Balancing Academic And My Routines

The two routines I had aside from my academy were fellowship and blogging. At that time I was writing on some blogs to help support me financially while I was in school and for the fellowship, it was scheduled for evenings. Most of our lectures ended by 4pm and sometimes we extended to 5pm especially if the lecturer was a visiting lecturer and had a lot of syllabus to cover in a day. All of our fellowship activities were timed 5pm and closed at 7pm. We were expecting to cook, wash, and do the remaining activities within the few hours we had left before dawn.

Sometimes I come back from the fellowship meeting stressed and unable to do any other work and that's what prompted me to use my time wisely if I needed to do other activities. I wasn't faithful with the timetable for the number of times I drafted one, I may stay faithful for a day or two before realizing other activities come in-between that I didn't plan for , and suddenly I drift from following it. So I decided I'll make every one of my time count, using my free time in-between to accomplish tasks I would have postponed for the evening.

So this is how well I managed my time; I wrote my blog posts when I had free time during school hours. Sometimes, I go back to the hostel to cook if I prefer the evening for my writing. I often washed while I was cooking, I didn't have to use separate hours for them, cooking and washing shared the same time. Before starting to cook, I soaked the clothes, then resumed washing them while beans or rice was on the fire or after I mixed the ingredients if it was something simple. The fellowship time was fixed and as the president, I only tried to manage the two hours fellowship time without exceeding the time beyond 30 minutes.

My best reading time was either late at night or early morning. I don't read for so long, so one hour was enough for me to go through my notes. For my assignments, I do them during school hours or in my reading time. Not all of the days within the week was busy and stressful, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays were days I had enough time to do most of the tasks for the following week, I washed, read, have fun and did most of my assignments and visitation to reduce overloading the week that follows with chores. This pattern of time management was effective and if the load was much, I delegated tasks to certain people, especially those which included fellowship activities.
