We need them

Hello everyone, in one of my previous posts, I talked about women's economic power and financial independence. Today I’ll talk about something that is in the same line as that. It is how some men still do not know how powerful women are and how powerful they can be. One of the behaviors that contributes to the hostility of the environment when it comes to women is how some men belittle women, it shows up as a biased form or treating them unfairly because of their gender. This bad behavior has contributed to a very hostile atmosphere where women may feel devalued. I see no reason why women should be unappreciated and devalued especially when it comes to work environments.

Some men belittle women as they consider them less capable of certain roles and tasks. I feel there should not be discrimination in things like this irrespective of gender. Why invalidate women’s experiences and voices? Some men go as far as talking down on women in a very harsh tone forgetting that these people have hidden gems in them. Mind you, when you talk down and invalidate a woman’s feelings it questions their self-worth. It makes them feel inadequate and lowered and this has effects on their mental health. In some areas where women have been belittled, it can create problems for their success and professional growth.

I know some Nigerians in this community can testify to this. I’ve seen a married man praying that his wife should never be more successful than him. This makes me question some people’s mentality and also some men believe that marriage is all about them, they want a situation where their wife won't be able to do anything without seeing them but this is one of the mentalities I don’t like. It’s just a form of way to put a woman in the box and never let their potential out.  Cutting your woman's success is also a way of cutting your success because if anything should happen to you how do you want your children to survive? I was raised by a single mother, so I know how strong a woman can be and how they can feel the void of a man. 

I want us to all come together and talk about this issue of belittling women because it has done more harm than good to society at large. I want men who can’t take it when they see a woman growing and empowering herself to do better. I want the world and the society at large to do better when it comes to women. We should let growth and success be gender-based. Let’s promote gender equality and see how the environment will be more beneficial and better. Every human should be valued and respected. Let’s all do better to make the world a better place.
