One on the side

according to what I’ve been seeing online and also what I’ve been reading in books the value of the dollar is going down and it’s not what it used to be again. according to people living in the US, the government is not even increasing the minimum wage, the minimum wage remains the same and the value of goods and services people provide is increasing every day. How can the average person even survive when things are getting tighter every day? The same thing is happening in Nigeria where inflation has gone up over 200% since the last time they increased the minimum wage.

everything is increasing in the country ranging from Housing to education. There is inflation in everything now in Nigeria and nothing is cheap again, and the minimum wage remains the same, which is squeezing everybody both the poor and the rich are complaining about how unsustainable our economy has become over the years, and the citizens now demanding for an increase in the minimum wage, which is understandable because the economy is squeezing us the extent that we can barely survive.

They don't care about us

even if they increase the minimum wage in Nigeria, not everybody is working for the government and what do you want the average Nigerians who are not working for the government to do this is very different from foreign countries where people are paid per hour, and only the government workers are entitled to minimum wage, when you are working for a private sector They can choose to pay you anything that they want even below the minimum wage.

The main reason why Nigerian citizens are calling for increments in the minimum wage is that they realize that the government doesn’t care about them and the only way they can enjoy the country's resources is by increasing the minimum wage, apart from the fact that the inflation is so much that everybody struggling to survive, it is evident that they don’t care about us and this is why we must look for other ways to provide for our self whether you are working for the government or not. it is high time we start providing for ourselves by taking a different approach because depending on minimum wage is a trap.

Side hustle

there was a time when most Nigerians wished to work for the government because of the minimum wage and the higher your level as a government worker the higher your salary but now most people are beginning to realize that minimum wage is just a trap, in America the buying power of a dollar as decrease and crazy inflation in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. we must look for a way to provide for ourselves whether we are working for the government or not, we should try as much as possible to have a side hustle no matter where we find ourselves in the world. we are not yet in any economic crisis and things are hard like this.

to have a side it’s not as difficult as the way it used to be we live in a world where we have stress-free side hustles. I have always worked outside of hive sometimes as a teacher, but it is now getting difficult and the pay is not that sustainable again just because of the inflation, so I’m looking to start something new. I believe many sources of income are just the way to go in the present world economy so that we won't go back to square zero immediately after there is an economic crisis.

Thanks for your time.

It sucks to hear that the minimum wage is only for the government. It doesn't apply to the rest of the job market? In the US, it applies everywhere but the wage growth isn't keeping up with the price increases.

The gap between minimum wage and the cost of goods and services to live a standard life in today's world will probably continue increasing. The system is simply broken and relying on it isn't practical anymore for most people. Thank goodness, that we live in a era where there are opportunities to tap from beyond our borders, if not the situation would've been more bleak.

To be honest, the minimum wage is not the problem, decreasing the cost of goods and services as well as improving the strength of the naira, making market regulations work well against greedy people and stabilizing the state. Unfortunately we voted for the people who don't know anything
