Nigeria tax reform.

The Nigerian government set up a committee to reform the tax system a few months ago and ever since the committee went to work, they have done a fantastic job even though at first the tax reform caused a lot of problems among Nigerians. It divides the ethnic groups and religion in the country and these are the things that the citizens don’t take likely when it comes to tribe and religion, but now as I’m talking to you, the tax reform is now a law in the country. I’m happy with this based on some reasons.

I am not always in support of taxes simply because in most countries, they are only taking money away from the working citizen and those are the majority that make up a country which are the poor citizens and the hard-working citizens. The rich who are very few always have a way to evade tax and all of these ways are legal. They are not illegal because some of these ways are backed by the government which are the ones that make those rules to favour the rich.

Gone are those days when the rich hide how they can evade taxes, but now we are saying it to everybody’s faces that they are avoiding taxes, and there is nothing people can do about it. This is one of the major reasons why I don’t like taxes. Another reason why I don’t like taxes is that most of the money the government makes from taxes is not always put to good use. They spend it lavishly on things that are not necessary, forgetting that these are the hard work and labour of their citizens.

Is tax the next thing?

I believe this is a great question and we should be asking ourselves that is tax the next thing for the country? We have the problem of insecurity that is growing every day and this is getting worse day by day. We have the problem of inflation and also a bad economy that is putting more citizens in poverty every day and nobody is talking about it. I believe that most of these problems can be solved if the government has more money just that the problem in Nigeria has not always been about the money. It has always been about management.

We shouldn't have found ourselves in this kind of situation in the first place. If people in power have always managed the resources of the country well. I believe tax is one of those ways that they can get money in if the money is used properly. The new tax reform makes the poor Nigerians pay less tax and also small businesses pay less tax. It is designed in such a way that it will help the citizens more. I believe that if the money that will be generated from the tax is put into good use and no rich people can evade the tax and the money is put into good use, we’re going to see a lot of changes.
