Make it hard
If you have been following my post, you will know that I've not been eating any refined food for years, it's been 2 years since I tasted pasta last. Anytime I mention this around people, they look at me oddly. That's how I can stay away from Refined food and also refined carbohydrates. What I did was simple I stayed true to myself, and I made my bad habits very hard to do.
Sometimes, you have to make hard decisions because if you don't make those decisions, there is no guarantee that you will be able to keep making the right choices. You might believe in yourself, be a strict person, and do what you say you are going to do, but if you're still keeping alcohol in your house, You're only making it hard for yourself because one day you'll be tempted, and you might go back to your bad habit.
Commitment device
Before I started my healthy eating journey, I thought I would never be able to stop eating bread because I love bread so much but I realize that the reason why I consume a lot of bread is because I don't cook and I always have bread in my fridge, It was always easy for me to consume a lot of bread anytime I'm feeling lazy or there is no food at home. So I was able to stop eating bread by meal prepping. Sometimes, when I'm preparing the food that I will eat for days, it is always time-consuming and can be very hard, but it is what I'm doing to save myself from making the right decision in the future.
Commitment devices are the things you do so that you will not fall victim to temptation in the future. They are the hard decisions you make to prepare for the future, and these are not meant to be easy, but they are good intentions that will save you. Another example is setting your phone in such a way that it will turn off by itself at a certain time at night; I've done this before when I always struggled to go to bed.
Make it difficult
You can create a commitment device by putting some things in place that make your bad habits difficult; you think you're putting in place by this simple, but make sure it makes going back to your bad habit very hard. Nobody was able to perfect a good habit without making some hard decisions. Commitment devices are very useful. It is a true way to stay committed and avoid future temptation.
