Trend - The bigger the better, because that's what we're used to

For years I avoided falling under the influence of this trend.
In my living room, I had a 43" diagonal TV that fit into the environment, a nice little shelf on which it was placed.
That 43" TV was bought a long time ago, as a replacement for an old 32" and at the time it was a big upgrade.
And I remember when the diagonal of 32" was an extraordinary increase. How, you might ask, where less than 32".

I am of the generation that grew up looking at screens with cathode ray tubes of small diagonals.

I remember, in every house, we all had a 21" diagonal TV, and only rare home theaters at the time, where they enjoyed a 29" diagonal screen.
I also remember computer monitors. I had a 15" monitor, and when I upgraded, I went to a fantastic 17"...
I couldn't find a photo with those old TVs, so for this occasion and #tbt, I dug out a photo from 2008, which shows one monitor, probably 15"...

Today in front of me is a little bigger, from 27", because there was no need to have a 32" monitor...

On the first occasion, when I go to the cottage, I will find my old black and white TV with a diagonal of 14" screen and turn it on, to see d but it still works.
Maybe I'll make a post about him 😀

And why am I now writing about this trend of large screens and the constant increase?
I mentioned on one occasion that I was pissed off at Netflix, which a year ago, threw out an info message on my still excellent 43" Panasonic TV that support for the Netflix app on it was ending.
I watched Netflix on my computer for almost a whole year, and then, at the time of the discount before the new year, I took advantage of the situation and bought a TV with a larger diagonal, which supports all applications and has all the necessary functions...

The difference between the 50" and 55" TVs was very small, so even though it didn't fit perfectly on the existing shelf, I bought a larger one, 55".
Compared to the 43", it is a big increase, which is also very noticeable in the photos I took.

In order not to wait for the delivery for several days, we got into the car and drove to a shopping center, where we chose a TV.
LG TV 55", I put it in the car and drove it home.
I was " my jo" for mounting and configuring it, as well as dismantling our old Panasonic TV that served us well for almost 10 years.

I gave that old TV to my father-in-law, who didn't use some of the functions that I needed.

And so, day by day, I got used to the size of the TV in our room and it was not at all strange to me that there was such a big TV in our living room.

It probably wasn't strange to me, because every day I have the opportunity to look at monitors and TV screens with large diagonals, 65, 86 or even 98".

What to do, that's the way it is.
I can bet that in the living room I didn't use a shelf that took up most of the wall in order to get a 65" diagonal TV 🙂

We went to visit my partner's sister several times, and when she turned on her 32" TV, I would immediately ask her to turn it off, because compared to the diagonal of the screen we are used to watching, her 32" was like a toy...

Considering that she also planned to replace the TV, she received a manufacturer's recommendation from us, we persuaded her to get a larger diagonal, and she decided on a 50" TV. Although a 55" would be ideal on her shelf, and it could also fit a 65" 🙂

Once again, the car was a means of transportation, so from the shop, to the car and to the apartment with assembly, where I was once again the master.

The renewal of two TVs, with diagonal increases of 12" and 18" is a big improvement, and in addition to Netflix, which now works as it should, other apps on the new TVs work fluidly, with less braking.
It's good. I didn't just succumb to the trend of getting bigger, we also got newer hardware, which I hope will satisfy our needs for many years.

And how it goes, when you get started, then you really get started...
As a reward for the achievements of the past year, a few days ago I received a TV as a gift from the owner of the company I work for.
You guessed it, even bigger diagonals.
Here it is, one of the 65".

But unfortunately, due to the purchase of a new TV a month ago, the maximum diagonal that I can place in my living room, I will not be able to use this very high quality TV.
When I told the owner, he laughed and told me "Buy a bigger apartment".
Nice wish, but I believe I won't do it 🙂
He agreed with me when I told him that I will sell the TV he gave me as a gift, "Do whatever you want with it, but if you sell it, use the money you get for something for yourself, reward yourself for the effort you put in the previous year...

And so while I'm thinking about what to do with the 65" diagonal TV, I enjoy the 55" screen in my room, on which I sometimes look at the posts of my friend from Hive and with the set I remember my youth and those small diagonals I used to watch...

What a great story, brother! I agree with you on many things, from those small TVs that now look like toys to the importance of having a television that actually fits the living room. I think you made a good decision, and I'm glad that your work is valued and rewarded. A hug to you from afar!...

Greetings from this side of the globe 🙂
These big screens reminded me of the small ones we used to use.
Not so long ago, yet light years away.

When I think how happy I was as a kid when I watched a movie on that little TV. This big TV, today, with all the streaming platforms available, doesn't make me one bit as happy.
