Sugar as a drug
Maybe the effect of taking sugar on health is not the same as when taking drugs, but it certainly makes us addicted.
Every time we take sugar into our body, the body craves more of it.
And more, and more, and more...
And so one morning we wake up with diabetes diagnoses.
One of our nutritionists called sugar, one of a total of four foods, which represent the "white death".
In addition to sugar, according to him, these are: fat, flour and salt.
And sugar is the sweetest of all.
It's not like some other white death, which is prohibited by law and which is even more dangerous than sugar (cocaine - drawn in the infamous lines clucking in this picture, for which I hope I won't get a criminal charge).
But since sugar is very common and available at every step, that makes it a very dangerous food.
Dangerous to our health.
I remember my systematic medical check-up, in my prime, a whole nine years ago, when I turned forty.
I felt as strong as Hercules, solid as a rock, full of energy and thought the sky was the limit.
And then, laboratory blood analysis, EKG, blood pressure measurement... And what I thought and how I felt, collapsed like a house of cards.
Slightly elevated blood pressure, fatty liver, and high blood sugar.
I was not in the stage of treatment with drugs, but if I had been a few months late, I might have received a diagnosis.
Fortunately, the condition was not so serious, so as the next step, I received an assignment from the doctor: a mandatory diet to reduce weight, reduce fat in the body and eliminate sugar from my life.
And then several months of my absolute adherence to the diet begin. And as for sugar and sweets, I cut them out of my diet, as if my life depended on it.
I remember when I used to eat ice cream, I only bought the light variety without sugar, I even started drinking black coffee without a trace of sugar.
Instead of Nescafé 3in1, I started drinking 2in1 🙂
I threw out all juices, coke, fanta and switched to only lemonade without sugar.
It means total renunciation in order to preserve health.
And it was worth it.
After 6 months, I reduced my body weight to 10 kg less, I cleansed my arteries and liver of fat, and my sugar dropped below all limit values.
After those 6 months, I started consuming sweets occasionally, but I try to keep the amount to a minimum. And every year I go for systematic check-ups to monitor my condition.
From that fear for my health, which I felt for the first time in my life, from nine years ago, it remained in my habit to still drink coffee without sugar.
It often annoyed my housemates who drink sweet coffee, but they are used to it, the only thing is that they don't understand how I can drink such a bitter drink.
Sometimes I eat a few chocolate cubes, but there is no way I can drink coffee with a sugar cube.
So, on this week's topic
• Could you permanently get rid of sugar?
I'll write the following.
Sugar no, health yes.
I like your post, however I have to disgree about the salt part.
I have been consuming "abnormal" amounts of salt (with plenty of water of course) every day since late 2022. My health has never been better, I got rid of chronic angina that I got at least 2 times a year, and I never get sick, I never have any headaches. Overall health improved a lot and would recomend it to anyone. Just be sure to consume raw celtic salt, or any kind of salt that hasn't been procesed in any way. Also the high blood presure from salt consumption is a myth, mine is actually lower than ever.
Avoid sugar and flour but not salt.
Remember we originaly evolved from creatures that lived in the sea, salt cannot harm us, it is only beneficial.
Thank you for your comment.
I don't have too much experience in medicine to claim that something is or isn't good for health, but I only know one thing.
Everything in moderation and it is possible that there will be no problems.
Refined or not, does it contain sodium, which can negatively affect the work of the kidneys and the condition of the arteries (pressure due to water retention in the body)?
.
It contains sodium of course, but it contains over 80 different minerals that are all essntial for normal body function. In my experience with salt+water consumption I have had no problems with kidneys or blood preasure. Same goes for my wife who is also consuming salt. (We are both 30 years old)
Another thing I would like to add is that I often donate blood or plasma and every time when they run a blood test they tell me that I am the perfect doner, due to the resaults they see.
That's the essence.
When I was that age, I could eat anything, I didn't gain weight, and my metabolism burned everything harmful.
After forty-five, I was told at the blood transfusion institute that the quality of my blood was no longer satisfactory.
Stay alive, we'll see what the next 20 years will bring us, what sacrifices we'll have to make.
Sending you an Ecency curation vote!
Thanks for suppoort 🫶
My pleasure!
Good for you for eating healthy.

Preparing a healthy lunch, roasting sesame seeds is in progress 🙂
We have also started avoiding 3n1 coffee so we just have pure coffee powder with a little sugar or salt, but we still eat other sweets in moderation though... Your persistence and discipline led to a much needed weight loss. Your hard work has paid off and good luck on your weight-loss journey for better health.
Thanks 🙂
Lately, I've also been avoiding coffee (although I've never drunk it in large quantities).
Tea is a great drink, much better than coffee, with very little or no sugar.
Sugar are truely addicted so that is why we have diabetic persons .and I'm one of it..lolz 🤣
Sorry to hear that.
There is a lot in the genes, but taking an excessive amount of sugar certainly does not help the state of health.
When health is at stake, drastic measures must be taken.
Often, after the body sends us a signal, we realize that we were consuming more sugar than recommended. If we keep our consumption within the norm, we certainly don't have to take drastic measures... but like any addictive product, holding back is the hardest part.
When the body sends us signals, it is already too late.
Moderation and prevention is what we should strive for and practice.
