Bansko, a small town under the mountain for #wednesdaywalk
Have you ever had the opportunity to walk all day in a new place that you have never been to before, and from the interesting things you saw there, you are in doubt as to which photos to choose, and which you think would best represent that place?
I am.
And now I have a big dilemma and a choice, like a casting or a beauty pageant 🙂
On the way to the Greek sea, we stopped in the town of Bansko, at the foot of the Pirin mountain in Bulgaria.
A city at 900m above sea level is already a challenge for me, who lives in a city at 100m above sea level.
The walk is a bit more tiring, but the air is so clean that I could breathe to the fullest, even though I was walking around the city.
The town of Bansko, located at the foot of Pirin Mountain, has three parts.
The old town, the old part of the ski center and the new part, also the ski center, where the starting point of the gondola is located.
We were accommodated in a hotel in the old part of the ski center, because we wanted to be closer to the old part of the city.
Most of the hotels and accommodations in the old part of the ski center look neglected, perhaps because it is not the skiing season, and probably the construction of newer hotels in the vicinity of the gondola has influenced ski tourists to stay closer to the gondola.
When we left for Bansko, I had the desire to take the gondola up to the mountain, on whose peaks, even now, at the beginning of summer, you can see the remains of snow.
But unfortunately, the gondola was out of order.
All that was left for me was to walk around the city.
The end of the ski slope, where the gondola is located, looks fantastic with this green grass.
Near the ski track, this modified Hummer bides its days, when Bansko is covered in snow.
The roar of the water, led me to the brick trough, where the mountain waters flow.
At this moment, due to the fact that there is still snow on the mountain tops, the amount of water is still high, but as the temperatures rise and the rest of the snow melts, the water level will decrease, before autumn it may even dry up... But for now, there is plenty of water.
Maybe I'll still climb the mountain, if not by gondola, then by car, because I'd like to see where this much water comes from.
After walking around the new village of the ski center, we walked through the old part of the ski center.
The pedestrian zone, with a large square and cafes, is a true oasis for a break while walking.
And when you enjoy walking around the ski center, then the attention is diverted to the old town of Bansko.
Old houses, which today house "Mehana", restaurants of national cuisine, can be found at every turn.
The old part of Bansko is dominated by the Church of the Holy Trinity.
A wide and long boulevard with many bars and restaurants stretches through the entire old town.
There are cats walking all around city. Some even agree to pose.
Popular and well-known restaurants, Mehana, offer their meals and invite you to be their guests.
Along with an interesting walk and photography of this part of the city, the scenes of these narrow streets when they are covered in snow and when mulled wine and mulled brandy are served in these mechanas, while smoke comes out of their exhausts from large fireplaces.
Now there is no fire, because it is very hot, and when it is hot, we also avoid the strong food offered by the mechanics, so we look for some refreshments and light food.
All in order to have the strength and energy for an additional walk in the nearby park across the street from our accommodation and the street bazaar where vendors sell various trinkets, specific to this area.
The most interesting to me are these copper products and this bells for sheep, the so-called "Klepetuše".
Wednesday is a day for walking, and I absolutely dedicated this Wednesday to walking.
I hope that you like the pictures that I shared with you today and that I at least gave you a little glimpse of the beauty of this place over the summer, so that I might interest you in visiting and staying, even if you are not a skier.
