Being a mother, daughter, wife, taking care of domestic chores and aspiring at the same time for improvement and professional options within the world of art, historically with a certain tendency to make women visible in standards of beauty beyond artistic gifts, thus favoring in some way the potential male gender, is quite a challenge to take on when you want to fight for a possible dream - but like every dream at the end of the day - it is difficult to wake up and turn it into an objective reality.

A question that does not destroy a powerful statement: yes it is possible!!

I am Cuban, from Camagüey. I am a troubadour, singer-songwriter, doctor, mother of two little ones and a woman deeply committed to art.

I am aware that the road ahead will be even longer and cobbled than the few paths traveled. But I have decided to start from my position.
Dreams are made by hand and with effort.

In the universe of trova, a world of bohemianism and of making one's way with a guitar on one's shoulder through parks and gatherings... we hear daily, phrases that are not offensive to us due to repetition and habit, but "sexist" phrases in their content.

The virtuoso woman on the guitar: "plays like a man", as if the technical and the uninhibited could not be conceived as feminine qualities.

Or in the best and fairest of cases, the stage is conceived, not as a battle ring, but as a space for recreation, freedom and equality.

Women did not come to imitate, we came to be parts, to contribute our ingenuity, our sensitivity, our sensuality... to compose from our truths, to sing with everything we are: with love, with wounds, with courage, with desire.

Women are also spokespersons for our history. Our speech must be heard and respected. No path is carved without discipline, sacrifices, faith in what is inside.
It is important not to give up, despite the double shifts and silence in the face of incomprehension. In order to at some point give ourselves something immense: the power to build ourselves, to look back and say: I achieved it, I made it possible.

The world needs more authentic, determined, brave women incapable of putting themselves down.

In Havana/Cuba, there is an event called Cantoras Ella y Yo, which is celebrated every year, with the aim of making social equality, gender equality and cultural rescue visible.

A necessary meeting, a tribute to the woman composer, a platform for our voices to resonate and resist disinterest and stigma.

We always see each other there, singers from different provinces, professionals from different branches, strengthening ties between singers not only from Cuba, but from Latin America, with different stories, but with the same purpose: to defend our art, support our voice and rewrite our social objective.

Every year there is a better exchange, to show us that we are on the right path. We are not. And together we are unstoppable.

En el mundo del arte, ser mujer y posicionarse como artista, al menos "reconocido", resulta, la mayoría de las veces, todo un desafío.

Ser madre, hija, esposa, ocuparse de las labores domésticas y aspirar a la vez por superaciones y opciones profesionales dentro del mundo del arte, históricamemte con cierta tendencia a visibilizar la mujer en estándares de belleza más allá de las dotes artísticas, favoreciendo así de alguna forma al género masculino en potencia, es todo un reto a asumir cuando se quiere luchar por un sueño posible - pero como todo sueño al fin y al cabo- cuesta despertar y tornarlo una realidad objetiva.

Cuestión que no destruye una afirmación poderosa: sí se puede!!

Soy cubana, de Camagüey. Soy trovadora, cantautora, doctora, madre de dos pequeños y mujer profundamente comprometida con el arte.
Estoy conciente de que el camino a recorrer será aún más largo y empedrado que los pocos senderos recorridos. Pero he decidido emprender desde mi posición. Los sueños se hacen a mano y con esfuerzo.

En el universo de la trova, mundo de bohemia y de abrirse camino guitarra al hombro a base de parques y tertulias... escuchamos a diario, frases que no nos resultan ofensivas por la repetición y la costumbre, pero frases "machistas" en su contenido.

La mujer virtuosa en la guitarra: "toca como un hombre", como si lo técnico y lo deshinibido no pudieran concebirse como cualidades femeninas. O en el mejor y más justo de los casos, se concibe el escenario, no como un ring de batalla, sino como un espacio de esparcimiento, libertad e igualdad.
Las mujeres no vinimos a imitar, vinimos a ser partes, a aportar nuestro ingenio, nuestra sencibilidad, nuestra sensualidad... a componer desde nuestras verdades, a cantar con todo lo que somos: con amor, con heridas, con coraje, con deseo.

Las mujeres también somos portavoces de nuestra historia. Nuestro discurso debe de ser escuchado y respetado.

Ningún camino se labra sin disciplina, sacrificios, fe en lo que se lleva por dentro.

Es importante no desistir, a pesar de las jornadas dobles y el silencio frente a la incomprensión. Para así en algún momento regalarnos algo inmenso: el poder de construirnos a nosotras mismas, de mirar atrás y decir: lo logré, lo hice posible.

El mundo necesita de más mujeres auténticas, decididas, valientes e incapaces de menospreciarse.

En La Habana/ Cuba, existe un evento llamado Cantoras Ella y Yo, que se celebra cada año, con el objetivo de visibilizar la igualdad social, la igualdad de géneros y el rescate cultural. Un encuentro necesario, un homenaje a la mujer compositora una plataforma para que nuestras voces resuenen y resistan al desinterés y al estigma.

Allí nos vemos siempre, cantoras de distintas provincias, profesionales de distintas ramas, estrechando lazos entre cantoras no solp de Cuba, sino de latinoamérica, con distintas historias, pero con un mismo propósito: defender nuestro arte, apoyar nuestra voz y reescribir nuestro objetivo social.

Cada año resulta un mejor intercambio, para demostrarnos que vamos por buen camino. No estamos solas. Y juntas somos imparables.
