Hanging out in Harmony California

Hey guys. I'm going to be writing a short post about a quick day trip I took to the little unincorporated town of Harmony California.

Harmony is on California's central coast area on Highway 1 , between the cities of Cambria and Cayucos. You have to pay attention when driving because if you are not careful, you could easily miss it.

Harmony is a small town that was founded around several dairy farms and a creamery was built. What is left now is the remnants of the town but is still alive and kicking as a tourist attraction. There is a strong feeling of it's dairy based history everywhere you walk.

There is a gift shop, coffee shop, a glass blowing shop, a pottery shop, a wedding chapel, and a food truck serving ice cream and food truck (it wasn't open the day I visited).

I took this trip some time back in August and I took a few pictures of my visit.

Harmony Creamery

The main reason for the founding of the town of Harmony. The Creamery.
The Harmony Creamery Building

The Harmony Ice Cream truck and Food Trailer. The food trailer wasn't open the day I visited.

I believe this was an old road sign that used to be displayed on California Highway 1 to attract tourists. It's now displayed on site.

Harmony Chapel

If you want to tie the knot with your significant other, Harmony has got you covered.

This is the wedding chapel that can be rented out for weddings.

Harmony Glass Works

There is a working shop where glass blowers sell their wares to the public. They make glassware, windchimes and other such gifts made from glass.

This is Harmony Glass works. Glass blowers make all kinds of glasswear and items for sale.

Harmony Pottery and Crafting Classes

Just like the glass works there is a pottery studio where area potters wares are featured and are available for sale. Also there is an area where scheduled crafting classes are held and various artisans can show their goods. This particular day there was a leather worker who was showing his creations.

The Cows of Harmony

Throughout the town there are colorful and whimsical cows in various poses in homage to Harmony's dairy history.

This girl is painted with a mural of the actual town of Harmony. You see her as you first walk up.

Here is a playful cow catching a frisbee in front of the pottery studio.

Looks like a Spanish Missionary Monk cow working a butter churn.

And the one cow who is the overseer of the whole town.

And this is a plaque/manhole cover in the courtyard. I don't know the history of this monument. I just thought it looked cool.

Conclusion

I had passed by Harmony many times on my trips to the central coast, but I have actually never stopped. This time I'm glad I did as I got to experience a cool little fun spot to check out some local history, check out some really neat glassware and pottery, and grab some killer vanilla ice cream. Also I'm glad that I took some pictures that I could relive the day and also share with all of you.

If you are in the area I highly recommend you drop in for a visit.
