My Coffee Farming Process: How I Plant, Maintain and Grow Coffee Step by Step

I am sharing this based on my actual experience in coffee farming. This is not a perfect story, but a real one. 💚
I started by planning my farm again this 2026. I already have a coffee farm. But honestly it was not well maintained because life became very busy. Work, family and daily responsibilities tool most of my time. Because of that, our coffee plants did not produce much. This is the reality of farming, if you do not give time, the harvest will be affected, even if coffee beans are expensive in us are at around 350 pesos or more or less 7HBD per kilo.
The first thing I did was choose the coffee varieties. I personally selected Robusta and Arabica. I chose Robusta because it is strong, easy to grow and odes not need to much maintenance. Arabica needs more care, but it has better quality. Based on my experience choosing the right variety is very important. Not all coffee plants will survive if they are planted in the wrong place.

Next, I focused on getting healthy seedlings. I looked for seedlings with green leaves and strong stems. During my college days, coffee farming was my feasibility study, so I do actual experienced planting coffee before. I really did the actual work. Searching for seedlings, planting them and learning with the help of my family. That experience helped me avid mistakes now.

After getting the seedlings, I prepared the land. We cleaned the area and removed weeds, especially under old coffee trees. I dug holes with proper spacing so the roots would not complete with each other. When I planted the seedlings, I was careful not to damage the roots because young coffee plants are sensitive.

For maintenance, I do not do anything complicated Coffee does not need daily attention, but it still needs basic care. I clean under plants from time to time, especially now so the farm looks clean. This also helps the plants grow better by reducing weeds.

I also make sure the plants get enough water and shade. Too much sun can damage young plants, so natural shade from trees really helps, I do not overdo watering just enough to keep the soil moist.

One thing I like about Robusta coffee is that it can start flowering and producing fruit in about 18 months. Compared to the native coffee farm of my father, this is much faster, Native coffee took a long time to produce, but it loved longer Now, coffee framing is easier, bit it still needs patience.
I am planting coffee now for the future of my child. Coffee farming is slow, but once the plants are established, maintenance becomes lighter. My real process is simple plan, choose the right variety, plant carefully and maintain when needed, this is the real life of coffee farming, no shortcuts, just steady work.

Thank you for supporting and reading my story! This is my own picture, edited in Canva. It reflects my real journey in coffee farming and simple farm life. As we move forward this 2-26, let us plant more, not only coffee, but also hope, patience and a better future for our families. No matter how buys life becomes, going back to the land reminds us if what truly matters.

Thank you so much @jeanieviv84! 💛
Hi, thank you for sharing your experience. The process seems clear and simple.
But the difficult part is that we must carefully select the right variety, healthy seeds, prepare clean land, and carefully plant and maintain it.
Other important things might be basics like irrigation, shade trees, and weed control.
In my area, we plant petai trees as shade trees, which look beautiful and produce good coffee...
