Market Day: Selling Vegetables, Teaching My Child Responsibility and Where Every Cent Counts

Every Monday and Thursday is market day for us. we sell the vegetables we harvest from our farm. Most of our produce already has buyers, but some are not good size, we call these rejects and me and my daughter sell it to the market.

We set up and arrange in celophane outside the market gate. This is where we display our vegetables. We have many customers who already know us. Because we sell our vegetables with discounts for them. The money we earn from selling we used for groceries and our daily need. Sometimes we stay for three to four hours, but most of the time our vegetables sold out quickly.

After selling, we go straight to Mercury Drug store. My child already knows what to get. It helps my child learn how to manage important things, make choices and be responsible in her young age

Sometimes, not everyone understand this work. Some people I know, especially some of my batchmates especially those have a good profession, sometimes they looks down on what I do. Sometimes they suggest me to think to apply work in some offices or just a better job. Maybe they feel sorry seeing me work under the sun or in the rain. Yes, it is hot and tiring. Sometimes it rains and sometimes our feet and back hurt. But I know this is honest work. This how we provide for our family.

Selling in the market is hard, but happy. I feel blessed with every cents I earned. It also teachers discipline and value of hard work. And seeing my child learn from this makes all the tired hours worth it.
