Now that's a mango tree!

I never understood why my dad was hesitant to grow a mango tree in his yard here in Puerto Rico. I was even germinating a seed to plant it in the back. Yet today i looked over at the neighbors yard, and the realization came to me.

That's their mango tree. I never realized what kind of tree it was. That's when i understood why. It would take over the entire yard. Not to mention the maintenance it would require.

The neighbors have lived there since my dad's childhood. They have years of living with their tree. I started noticing the trash cans underneath the tree, and I gained an appreciation for what having such a tree on the property required.

I never fully appreciated the work that had to go into keeping their yard the way it is.

That tree takes up at least thirty percent of their yard, and thet really have maintained it nicely. It's beautiful, and I've gained a new respect for them and their tree.

Update: All the pictures used in this blog are mine, and were taken using my one plus 7 pro. :)

Having trees around requires more cleaning. But anyway, the tree is beneficial to the ecosystem, so kudos to them :)

The tree is so big. Taking care of it would require a lot of work, and your dad wasn't up for it. We have some of these mango tress back at my village but i spot a difference between those and the one you shared. They don't have their leaves and branches as close to the ground as this.

It makes me wonder if the tres isnt so tall, or it's just the species. What do you think?

That tree was damaged by hurricane Maria a few years back. I only found out after I shared this post and my aunt sent me a picture of what the tree look like after the storm. So it's interesting to imagine that that is what it looks like after recovering. It's a really beautiful tree.

Wow!
I see it now. I get it now.
It bounced back really nicely. For a tree that looked just like a fig after the hurricane, I'm amazed how well it has grown. Although i can see that its not so tall a tree.
