OUR SPIRITUAL LANGUAGE

Mark 16:17-19 (KJV):

17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.

Our Bible text today is very significant. Why is it? Because it reveals some of the last word Jesus spoke before he ascended into glory.

Jesus Christ our Lord left belivers with a great task ahead: which is to make disciples of all nations, Matthew 28:19. Jesus knew this mandate he has placed upon belivers is not something that could be accomplished by their natural ability. That is why he made sure that he empowered belivers with supernatural abilities, and one of them is the gift of speaking in tongues.

As a believer, you represent heaven here on earth. How can you be that privileged and yet you still don't know the language of the realm in which you represent?

Imagine a foreign ambassador who cannot speak any language from their home country. Does that sound strange to hear. Imagine how strange it is also for a person who call his or herself a Christian not being able to speak in tongues. For tongues are the language of the heaven.

In Acts 2:41. The first acknowledge sermon of Peter which at the end led to the conversion of about three thousand souls, began after his experience of speaking the heavenly language. Even the disciples were only able to move from one place to another after they spoke in tongues. They were able to move from Judea, Samaria, and to other ends of the Earth after this encounter.

All these shows that for a believer to be effective in the ministry you need the gift of the tongue. You are being build up in the spirit when you speak in tongues, because this enables you to pray according to the spirit and not according to your flesh, not according to your needs but according to the needs of God. It is the spirit of God praying through you.

You have to take your time as a believer and understand how speaking in tongues affects your spirit.

In 1 Corinthians 14:4, The Bible says, they edify you. What does this edification mean?

Tongues has various degree and levels. You have to learn about this levels and degrees and know how to operate in them. You can even go further by asking God for the gift of interpretation, for it has already been made available for you also.

Hallelujah!

NUGGET:

If you want to be an effective minister, you will need the gift of speaking in tongues. Tongues help you to build your spirit and also makes you to pray according to God's will, not by your will, because it is actually the spirit that is praying through you.
