Greetings to all, especially to the lovers of adventure and architecture, I am happy to be back and share a new experience with you. Today I invite you to visit the Bolivar square in the city of Tovar, located in the Mocotíes Valley, Merida State, Venezuela.

Walking through the streets of Tovar was a very pleasant experience and one of the places I liked the most was its Bolivar Square. This Bolivar square is charming, especially for its design, since it does not have the typical radial plan of the other Merida squares I have known so far.

As we approached it, the first thing that caught my attention is the amount of trees that offer shade and freshness to the place and this picturesque sculpture of a Tovareño character. This sculpture is on a perimeter stone wall that serves as a seat for visitors, is a beautiful work, with a bright finish and vivid colors, I really like the realism and expressions of the face, no doubt the artist did an excellent job.

Un saludo para todos, en especial a los amantes de la aventura y de la arquitectura, estoy feliz de estar de vuelta y compartir una nueva experiencia con ustedes. Hoy los invito a conocer la Plaza Bolívar de la ciudad de Tovar, ubicada en el Valle del Mocotíes, Estado Mérida, Venezuela.

Caminar por las calles de Tovar, fue una experiencia muy grata y uno de los sitios que más me gusto fue su plaza Bolívar. Esta plaza Bolívar, es encantadora, en especial por su diseño, ya que no tiene la típica planta radial de las demás plazas merideñas que he conocido hasta ahora.

Cuando nos acercábamos a ella, lo primero que llamo mi atención es la cantidad de árboles que ofrecen sombra y frescura al lugar y esta pintoresca escultura de algún personaje Tovareño. Esta escultura está sobre un muro perimetral de piedra que sirve de asiento para sus visitantes, es una obra preciosa, con un acabado brillante y colores vivos, me gusta mucho el realismo y las expresiones del rostro, sin duda el artista realizo un trabajo excelente.

After sharing some time with this eloquent gentleman, we found this wall that welcomes visitors to the square, in golden letters, we have the following phrase:

Después de compartir un rato con este elocuente señor, encontramos esta pared que da la bienvenida a los visitantes de la plaza, en letras doradas, tenemos la siguiente frase:

"Tovar a sus hijos ilustres y benefactores"

One of the main characteristics of this square is that it is built in the form of terraces, it has three different environments, with plenty of space to enjoy and recreate, on the first level, just behind the wall I mentioned earlier, we find a kind of platform or tribune in concrete, with a mural in relief quite interesting. They give the impression of petroglyphs or very ancient symbols. I did not find more information about them, but I would love to know their meaning.

Una de las características principales de esta plaza, es que está construida en forma de terrazas, tiene tres ambientes distintos, con mucho espacio para disfrutar y recrearse, en el primer nivel, justo detrás de la pared que mencione anteriormente, encontramos una especie de tarima o tribuna en concreto, con un mural en relieve bastante interesante. Dan la sensación de petroglifos o símbolos muy antiguos. No encontré más información sobre ellos, pero me encantaría conocer su significado.

As you can notice the plaza is quite wide, with a series of stairs that allow you to access the different spaces, at the top the floor is made of stones with some brick frames, with a variety of tall and leafy trees. I like the texture and visual effect of the stones. While in other areas, the brick color is the protagonist, thanks to the floor covering with clay tiles.

Como pueden notar la plaza es bastante amplia, con una serie de escaleras que te permiten acceder a los diferentes espacios, en la parte superior el piso es de piedras con algunos marcos de ladrillos, con una gran variedad de árboles altos y frondosos. Me gusta la textura y el efecto visual de las piedras. Mientras que en otras áreas, el color ladrillo es el protagonista, gracias al revestimiento del piso con baldosas de arcilla.

In the second level, we find the sculpture dedicated to the Liberator Simón Bolívar, located on a pedestal in marble, the Liberator is standing, wielding his sword, it seems to me a very nice sculpture, it calls my attention that the pedestal has a great height. This area is protected with a black wrought iron trellis with golden details, very nice, behind the sculpture we find some flagpoles, in the image we can see the flag of the State of Merida, Venezuela and the Municipality of Tovar, waving in the wind.

En el segundo nivel, encontramos la escultura dedicada al Libertador Simón Bolívar, ubicada sobre un pedestal en mármol, el Libertador esta pie, empuñando su espada, me parece una escultura muy bonita, me llama la atención que el pedestal tenga una gran altura. Esta zona se encuentra protegida con un enrejado en hierro forjado en negro con detalles dorados, muy bonitos, detrás de la escultura encontramos algunas astas de banderas, en la imagen podemos ver la bandera del Estado Mérida, la de Venezuela y la del Municipio Tovar, ondeando con el viento.

From the square we can admire some architectural buildings of great importance, such as the church Nuestra Señora de Regla, and the government palace.

Desde la plaza podemos admirar algunos edificios arquitectónicos de gran importancia, como la iglesia Nuestra Señora de Regla, y el palacio de gobierno.

Beautiful walkways, with beautiful lanterns, make this place a meeting place, a place to rest, for recreation, ideal for enjoying a pleasant afternoon, with good company or for a walk alone, accompanied by a good read.

Hermosas caminerías, con lindos faroles, hacen de este sitio, un sitio de encuentro, un lugar para el descanso, para la recreación, ideal para disfrutar de una tarde agradable, con buena compañía o para un paseo a solas, acompañado de una buena lectura.

I really like how the space was used, I think the architect in charge of its design took advantage of the topography of the place and made the most of the space, under the lower level of the square, we find a public library, this is great and on one of the sides, we have an extension of the illustrious Universidad de los Andes.

Me gusta mucho como se aprovechó el espacio, creo que el arquitecto encargado de su diseño aprovecho la topografía del lugar y logro que el espacio fuese aprovechado al máximo, debajo del nivel inferior de la plaza, encontramos una biblioteca pública, esto es genial y en uno de los laterales, tenemos una extensión de la ilustre Universidad de los Andes.

Wide spaces full of nature, beautiful structures and sculptures are some of the things you can enjoy in Tovar's Plaza Bolivar, where you will surely be able to engage in an interesting conversation with some of its kind and gentle inhabitants.
