Making the independence day shirt for my client gave me an idea to make something similar for my brand. Not the exact same design, I almost never do that but making a design with the exact same purpose.

Be that as it may, Emdhee's Vogue (my brand) is literally born and brought up in Nigeria so it'll be weird to just stay silent on the nation's literal birthday. It took weeks and weeks of thinking “what works best”, “what would look good”, “what Stitch should I use”, “should I use adults or a kid” and trust me that wasn't even a quarter of the thoughts that were going through my mind.

Designing is a long process thinking of what to do, how to do it, where to do it, whom to do it on and the why behind it is literally a full career on its own. The good news is that after a while I figured it out and got to work. I decided to recreate the flag but in stitches.

Double crochet seemed basic, so did single and other stitches. I wanted something not too textured but textured enough to not make it look bland. I don't know if that makes sense to you but yeah I finally arrived at the Suzette Stitch and after the first patch of green I knew she was my one true love.

I had to make the body itself in patches so I can easily duplicate the exact proportion for all of them. Was it time consuming? Yes, did I want to chicken out? Yes, was it totally worth it? Yes, did I get the result I needed? Absolutely!

Then came putting the patches together and oh my days I was wishing I could delegate that task to someone else but it was me and me alone so I had to do my thing and move on to the next step because I was slowly running out of time.

The sleeves were not supposed to fit perfectly. I needed it to have that puff look so it'll be a beauty on its own and I think I got just what I wanted. I used a 3.5mm hook to do this and when I was done the project was begging to be steamed because it was looking like a huge block of wood waiting to be cut down.

I pulled out my steamer, gave it the heat 😅 and my baby was flowy in a matter of minutes.

Ahhhhhhh I almost forgot my pretty model, in the midst of me thinking of what to do I visited my niece, lo and behold she gave me the look I needed so obviously I snatched her from her parents to plan this out.

Shoot Day came and I was tired and a whole lot but we made it work. And we got these amazing images after. It was a lovely experience working on this and I honestly can not wait to show more projects in the future.
The supplies that I used in making this
