Crochet Scrunchie || Easy to Understand Tutorial

Wearing head pieces has always been a part of me, whether it's a bandana, a scarf, head ties for my bun or just something my head is never empty.

Today I'd love to share a Tutorial for something that has a special place in the hearts of many fiber artists and craft lovers

“Scrunchies” are becoming more fashionable by day and I know you'd love to make your very own and maybe add some tweaks to fit your aesthetic.
Here's how to make one step by step (you need knowledge of double crochet and slip stitch)

Materials Needed:
Yarn: I used two strands of 3ply acrylic here
4.0 mm hook
Elastic band
Scissors
Tapestry needle to hide yarn ends

Tutorial:
Step 1: Using the elastic hair tie as base, create a slip knot round the elastic and chain two (for double crochet)

Step 2 (base) : Make double crochet stitches Round the hair tie until the hair tie is covered fully in stitches then slip stitch, chain 2 and turn your work.

Step 3 (ruffles): To start creating ruffles, insert 3 double crochet stitches in the chain 2 space, then 3 double crochet stitches in all the stitches till get to the end of the row, then you slip stitch and chain 2.

Step 4: Make a row of regular double crochet stitches with no increases then slip stitch and chain 2 at the end.

Step 5: To add more volume, add 2 double crochet stitches in all the stitches till you get to the end of the row, then chain slip stitch and chain 1 and cut your yarn. [This helps to make the ends of the ruffles defined and also makes standing ruffles)

Step 6: To create the detailing, make a slip knot on your yarn, add it to the scrunchie then chain 1, make single crochet stitches round the scrunchie till you get to where you started. Then chain 1, slip stitch and cut your yarn.

Step 7: to get a neat and smooth finish, insert the yarn ends in a darning needle and oasis it through stitches to hide and secure it.

To make a scrunchie that has more ruffles or less ruffles you'll increase or reduce the number of stitches in step 3.

Making this took less than an hour. I'd love to see your recreation.
