The Human Quest for Greatness

Dear readers!
We read in history that great kings once ruled the world. They cast lassos at the stars, and their empires were the envy of the moon. Magnificent kingdoms rose whose dignity and might endured for centuries, and in this way they ruled not only lands but also hearts.

All of this represents manifestations of human dominion on earth. I often think to myself: how far does a human being ultimately wish to go in this world? What does a human truly want? What is the essence of all his efforts, desires, and dreams?

In my view, the answers to all these questions are hidden in a few things. If a human attains them, he can truly think of casting a lasso at the stars.

So let us explore these things one by one:

Resources:

Resources do not merely mean limitless wealth, but also the authority and power through which every facility, every comfort, and every experience can be purchased that turns life into a masterpiece. This is the tool that can unlock every closed door.

Power:

The immense strength of youth, that passion and determination before which even mountains seem like grains of sand. This is the energy that gives courage to reach the stars and makes every impossibility possible.

Knowledge and Skill:

This is the treasure that cannot be stolen, that does not diminish when shared but rather increases. It does not only provide sustenance but also raises one’s head with pride in every gathering. It is the asset that keeps a person alive forever.

People:

True friends, sincere relatives, compassionate neighbors, these are the flowers whose fragrance turns life into a blooming garden. They are the support that becomes a shield in every storm. Without them, true peace does not exist in life.

Leadership:

The intoxicating reality of power is unique and superior to all other intoxicants. It is not merely about issuing commands, but about possessing the authority to influence millions with a single gesture.

Social Prestige:

Honor is that rare jewel which cannot be bought with wealth. One who possesses it lives life with dignity and independence.

Now imagine if all these qualities, all these powers, were gathered within a single individual. How great a ruler would he become?
But think further, what if all these pillars became the foundation of an entire empire, a magnificent state?
Can you imagine such heights, such grandeur, such power?

Dear readers! History has witnessed exactly such a golden chapter, and the name of that chapter was:
“The Umayyad Caliphate.”

• Resources,
• Power,
• Knowledge,
• Capable individuals,
• Leadership,
• And social honor and prestige.
  If there was a living embodiment of all these factors, it was the Umayyad Caliphate.

Let us see how this great empire turned every point into reality:

Abundance of Resources:

An empire whose treasuries overflowed:
The Umayyad Caliphate’s domain extended over the richest lands and trade routes of the known world at that time. From Syria to Spain, from Egypt to Central Asia, the wealth from taxes, revenues, and conquests flowed into the public treasury like rivers merging into the sea. This wealth was not limited to the caliph alone; its effects reached the common citizen, creating remarkable economic prosperity and abundance within society.

A Storm of Power the World Can Never Forget:

The Umayyad army was not merely a group of soldiers, but a highly trained, disciplined force equipped with the most advanced weaponry of its time. Their military campaigns changed the course of history.
In the east, they conquered Sindh (present-day Pakistan) and the regions of Transoxiana (Central Asia).
In the west, their general Tariq bin Ziyad conquered Spain and raised the banner of Islam at the gates of Europe.
In the north, their armies advanced into the regions of France.
It was this power that caused the drumbeat of a single empire to echo from the borders of China to the mountains of Spain. No force dared to confront them. Great kings and empires bowed before them, paying tribute to secure their safety.

The Light of Knowledge and Skill That Still Shines Today:

During the Umayyad era, knowledge was not mere rhetoric. Grand structures like the Great Mosque of Damascus and the Mosque of Cordoba were not just places of worship but centers of learning, true universities. Foundations were laid in fields such as medicine, astronomy, mathematics, chemistry, and architecture, upon which the structure of modern science stands today.
The Arabic language ceased to be merely a language and became an international medium of knowledge and wisdom.

Capable Individuals:

A coordinated and strong administration:
To govern such a vast empire, military strength alone was not enough. The Umayyads established a strong and efficient bureaucracy. Governors, judges, revenue administrators, and countless officials worked tirelessly to manage the empire, ensuring that internal peace and order remained exemplary.

Leadership:

The central force whose authority echoed across the world:
The caliph seated in Damascus was truly the heart and mind of this great empire. A single decree from him traveled from east to west and was implemented without delay.
It was this central authority that bound this vast territory together like beads on a single thread.

Social Prestige:

An honor whose awe was felt across the world:
The very word “Caliphate” was a symbol of greatness, power, and dignity in the world of that time.
The title “Commander of the Faithful” was not merely an honorific, but the identity of the head of the world’s greatest power.
The citizens of the Umayyad state took pride in being part of one of the greatest empires in history.

This is why the Umayyad Caliphate is called that unparalleled “golden chapter” of history. In truth, it was a beautiful bouquet of resources, power, knowledge and skill, capable individuals, leadership, and economic and social prestige, a living and dynamic embodiment of greatness. It was the only era in which the Umayyads reached their complete peak, materially and spiritually, a peak so high that no other empire or state could rival them in any aspect.

انسان کی عظمت کی جستجو

قارئین کرام!
ہم تاریخ میں پڑھتے ہیں کہ دنیا میں بڑے بڑے بادشاہ گزرے، انہوں نے ستاروں پر کمندیں ڈالیں اور ان کی حکومتیں رشکِ قمر ہوا کرتی تھیں۔ عظیم الشان سلطنتیں گزریں، جن کا وقار اور سطوت صدیوں تک رہا اور اس طرح انہوں نے لوگوں کے دلوں پر حکومت کی۔

یہ سب دنیا میں انسان کے راج کے مظہر ہیں۔ میں سوچتا ہوں کہ آخر انسان دنیا میں کس حد تک جانے کا سوچتا ہے؟ انسان دنیا میں کیا چاہتا ہے؟ اس کی تمام تر کوششوں، آرزوؤں اور خوابوں کا نچوڑ کیا ہے؟

میرے مطابق ان تمام سوالوں کا جواب چند چیزوں میں پنہاں ہے۔ اگر وہ چیزیں انسان کو مل جائیں تو وہ واقعی ستاروں پر کمند ڈالنے کا سوچ سکتا ہے۔

تو آئیے ذرا ان چیزوں کو کھوج کر دیکھتے ہیں:

وسائل:
وسائل سے مراد لامحدود دولت ہی نہیں بلکہ وہ اختیار اور اتھارٹی ہے جس کے ذریعے ہر سہولت، ہر آسائش اور ہر وہ تجربہ خریدا جا سکتا ہے جو زندگی کو ایک شاہکار بنا دیتا ہے۔ یہ وہ آلہ ہے جو ہر بند تالے کو کھول سکتا ہے۔

طاقت:
جوانی کی وہ بے پناہ قوت، وہ جذبہ اور وہ عزم جس کے سامنے پہاڑ بھی ریت کے ذرے محسوس ہوں۔ یہ وہ توانائی ہے جو ستاروں تک پہنچنے کا حوصلہ دیتی ہے اور ہر ناممکن کو ممکن بنا دیتی ہے۔

علم و ہنر:
یہ وہ خزانہ ہے جو چوری نہیں ہوتا، جو بانٹنے سے گھٹتا نہیں بلکہ بڑھتا ہے۔ یہ انسان کو صرف روزی ہی نہیں دلاتا بلکہ ہر محفل میں اس کا سر فخر سے بلند کراتا ہے۔ یہ وہ اثاثہ ہے جو انسان کو ہمیشہ زندہ رکھتا ہے۔

افراد:
سچے دوست، مخلص رشتہ دار، ہمدرد پڑوسی، یہ وہ پھول ہیں جن کی خوشبو سے زندگی باغ و بہار بن جاتی ہے۔ یہ وہ سہارا ہیں جو ہر طوفان میں ڈھال بن جاتے ہیں۔ ان کے بغیر زندگی میں حقیقی سکون نہیں۔

سربراہی:
اقتدار کی نشہ آور حقیقت تمام نشوں سے منفرد اور بالاتر ہے۔ یہ صرف حکم دینے کا نام نہیں بلکہ اپنے ایک اشارے پر لاکھوں لوگوں کو متاثر کرنے کا اختیار ہے۔

معاشرتی وقار:
عزت وہ نایاب ہیرا ہے جسے دولت سے خریدا نہیں جا سکتا۔ جس کے پاس یہ ہو وہ بے نیازی کے ساتھ زندگی گزارتا ہے۔

اب ذرا تصور کیجیے اگر یہ تمام خوبیاں، یہ تمام طاقتیں کسی ایک انسان میں جمع ہو جائیں تو وہ دنیا کا کتنا بڑا بادشاہ بن جائے گا؟
لیکن سوچئے، اگر یہی تمام ستون کسی پوری سلطنت، کسی عظیم الشان حکومت کی بنیاد بن جائیں تو کیا ہو؟
کیا آپ اس عروج، اس شان و شوکت اور اس طاقت کا تصور کر سکتے ہیں؟

قارئین کرام! تاریخ نے ایسا ہی ایک سنہرا باب دیکھا ہے اور اس باب کا نام تھا:
"خلافت بنو امیہ"

وسائل،
طاقت،
علم،
رجالِ کار،
قیادت،
اور معاشرتی عزت و وقار۔
ان تمام اسباب کا اگر کوئی مجسم روپ تھا تو وہ خلافت بنو امیہ تھی۔

آئیے دیکھتے ہیں کہ اس عظیم سلطنت نے ہر نکتے کو کیسے حقیقت کا روپ دیا:

وسائل کی ریل پیل:
وہ سلطنت جس کے خزانے بھرے پڑے رہتے تھے:
خلافت بنو امیہ کا دائرہ اقتدار اس وقت کی دنیا کے سب سے زیادہ زر خیز اور تجارتی راستوں پر پھیلا ہوا تھا۔ شام سے لے کر اسپین تک، مصر سے لے کر وسطی ایشیا تک، ٹیکسوں، محصولات اور فتوحات کا خزانہ بیت المال میں اس طرح جمع ہوتا تھا جیسے دریا سمندر میں جا کر گرتے ہیں۔ یہ دولت صرف خلیفہ تک محدود نہ تھی بلکہ اس کے اثرات عام شہری تک پہنچتے تھے، جس سے معاشرے میں حیرت انگیز معاشی خوشحالی اور فراوانی پیدا ہوئی۔

طاقت کا وہ طوفان جسے دنیا کبھی بھلا نہیں سکتی:
بنو امیہ کی فوج محض سپاہیوں کا ایک گروہ نہیں تھی بلکہ اعلیٰ تربیت یافتہ، منظم اور جدید ہتھیاروں سے لیس جنگجوؤں کا ایک طاقتور طوفان تھی، جس کی جنگی مہمات نے تاریخ کا رخ بدل دیا۔
مشرق میں انہوں نے سندھ (موجودہ پاکستان) اور ماوراء النہر (وسطی ایشیا) کے علاقوں کو فتح کیا۔
مغرب میں ان کے جرنیل طارق بن زیاد نے اسپین فتح کر کے یورپ کے دروازے پر اسلام کا پرچم لہرایا۔
شمال میں ان کی فوجیں فرانس کے علاقوں تک جا پہنچیں۔
یہی وہ طاقت تھی جس نے چین کی سرحدوں سے لے کر اسپین کے پہاڑوں تک ایک ہی سلطنت کا ڈنکا بجوایا۔ کوئی طاقت ان کا مقابلہ کرنے کی جرات نہ رکھتی تھی۔ بڑے بڑے بادشاہ اور سلطنتیں ان کے سامنے جھک جاتیں اور جزیہ ادا کر کے اپنی سلامتی خریدتیں۔

علم و ہنر کی وہ روشنی جو آج بھی چمک رہی ہے:
بنو امیہ کے دور میں علم محض زبانی دعوے نہیں تھا۔ مسجد دمشق اور مسجد قرطبہ جیسی عظیم الشان عمارتیں صرف عبادت گاہیں نہیں تھیں بلکہ علم کے مراکز اور جامعات تھیں۔ طب، فلکیات، ریاضی، کیمیا اور فن تعمیر جیسے شعبوں میں ایسی بنیادیں رکھی گئیں جن پر آج کی جدید سائنس کھڑی ہے۔
عربی زبان محض ایک زبان نہ رہی بلکہ علم و حکمت کی عالمی ترجمان بن گئی۔

افرادِ کار:
ایک مربوط اور مضبوط انتظامیہ:
اتنی وسیع سلطنت کو چلانے کے لیے صرف فوج کافی نہیں تھی۔ بنو امیہ نے ایک مضبوط اور موثر بیوروکریسی قائم کی۔ گورنر، قاضی، محصولات کے منتظم اور دیگر عہدے دار سلطنت کے نظم و نسق میں مصروف رہتے تھے، جس کے باعث اندرونی امن و امان مثالی رہا۔

سربراہی:
وہ مرکزی قوت جس کا ڈنکا پوری دنیا میں بجتا تھا:
دمشق میں بیٹھا ہوا خلیفہ اس عظیم سلطنت کا دل و دماغ تھا۔ اس کا ایک فرمان مشرق سے مغرب تک پہنچتا اور بلا تاخیر نافذ ہو جاتا تھا۔
یہی مرکزی قوت تھی جس نے اس وسیع خطے کو ایک لڑی میں پروئے رکھا۔

معاشرتی وقار:
وہ عزت جس کی دھاک پوری دنیا پر تھی:
"خلافت" کا لفظ اس وقت کی دنیا میں عظمت، طاقت اور وقار کی علامت تھا۔
"امیر المومنین" کا منصب محض ایک لقب نہیں بلکہ دنیا کی سب سے بڑی طاقت کے سربراہ کی شناخت تھا۔
بنو امیہ کے شہری اس بات پر فخر کرتے تھے کہ وہ تاریخ کی ایک عظیم ترین سلطنت کا حصہ ہیں۔

یہی وجہ ہے کہ خلافت بنو امیہ کو تاریخ کا وہ بے مثال "سنہری باب" کہا جاتا ہے۔ درحقیقت یہ خلافت وسائل، طاقت، علم و ہنر، رجالِ کار، قیادت اور معاشی و معاشرتی وقار کا حسین گلدستہ تھی، گویا عظمت کا ایک زندہ اور متحرک مجسمہ۔ یہ وہ واحد دور تھا جب بنو امیہ مادی اور روحانی دونوں اعتبار سے اپنے عروج پر تھے، ایسا عروج کہ کوئی دوسری سلطنت یا حکومت کسی پہلو سے بھی ان کا مقابلہ نہ کر سکی۔
