Surviving Inflation: My Practical Strategies
Living in a country that is currently fighting inflation, survival becomes hard. As a student I'm living far from my parents and at the same time living off campus. But despite the inflation I have derived some simple method that has helped me cope.
Cooking My Own Meals
One of the simple methods that has helped me survive this hard time and still have some spare money to save and make investment as a student is by cooking my personal meals. I noticed when I started school in my first year that the idea of eating out in a restaurant or ordering food was one lifestyle that was draining my finances so easily, especially with the current increase in the price of foodstuffs. I had to start preparing my own food and I enjoy the idea so much I have full control over the costs and with that I have full assurance that I'm eating fresh, raw, healthy, and balanced meals. I did my meals menu that will run for a week and list of items to buy. This has been so helpful to me because I don't make impulsive purchases and it has ensured I use what I buy. And then the next thing I usually do is to buy a particular brand of products that is affordable and quality.
The second method that has worked so well for me is venturing into farming in a little way. In the compound where I lived, there is a little space where weeds just grow and I decided to utilize the space by planting vegetables. I realized that Being a student is not what should hinder me from being a small-scale farmer, I've always had a passion for farming. I learnt that from my grandparent, I started my little garden using the Seedbed method to grow vegetables, tomatoes, okra, pepper and maize. It has been a rewarding journey and has helped reduce the cost of food stuff.
Buying in Bulk
Buying goods in bulk has really been of help to me, it reduces the cost than buying things in retail .Ever since I discovered that Purchasing items in bulk can lead to significant savings, especially for non-perishable goods and household items, I made it a necessity to always buy the non-perishable items in bulk. Sometimes I do add up money with my friends and buy in bulk then we share them, The price is far better than buying in bits.
Riding My Bicycle To School
Inflation has affected everything including transportation fare, so I have this sport bike I usually used for exercise and leisure, but now I decided to always use my bike to school. It is a more healthy and cost-effective alternative.
This few methods has been my way out of surviving in this has time.
