Mysterious Night in Xinyi

The other day, after watching "Aquaman 2," it was already dark out, but strolling around Xinyi District was on our to-do list. When talking about the lively spots in Taipei, you can't miss Xinyi District. Whether passing by on a regular day or intentionally coming for some shopping and dining on weekends, this place is bustling with crowds 24/7. Aside from Taipei 101, the highlight of the city's largest New Year's countdown event happens right here. The fireworks that shoot up like skyrockets are a must-see for every young soul – it's practically a Taipei New Year's rite of passage. In a few days, the annual Xinyi District New Year's Eve extravaganza, or as some might call it, the "nightmare," will unfold once again.
This area also boasts the most Christmas trees, with around 30 department stores in Taipei City and 16 in Xinyi alone. If each department store needs to set up a Christmas tree, that's at least 16 trees in this district. It's also home to many multinational corporations, such as Microsoft and Google from the U.S., China Bank and Tencent from China, and Shopee from Singapore. If each big company sets up a Christmas tree, imagine how many there would be. Of course, not every unit is obligated to have a tree, but there are plenty of dazzling light decorations and art installations, making this area a visually stunning spectacle.
Our goal was to appreciate the beautiful street scenes. As night fell, the signboards of fashionable boutiques, trendy cafes, and high-end restaurants illuminated the streets. Bars and restaurants, accompanied by music, attracted those looking to unwind and immerse themselves in the city's nightlife. Various uniquely styled food trucks on street corners provided a great option for those wanting to eat while strolling. You could feel the city's pulse quickening, especially this month, with Christmas-themed decorations amplifying the festive atmosphere. A friend even brought a DSLR camera to capture the Christmas vibes floating in the air. Of course, we were more than happy to be his models, creating some beautiful photos.
In my opinion, every department store's Christmas tree is the main attraction. For instance, the snow-white Christmas tree at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, made entirely of white feathers, is not only incredibly Instagrammable but also exudes a romantic ambiance. Many people come here for photos. Outside ATT4FUN, there's an Audi Christmas tree, a green tree adorned with illuminated Audi cars. Taipei 101 also boasts a Dior golden Christmas tree, inspired by the sparkling tree of life, radiating a unique French charm. If you take a stroll in this area, you'll notice many pedestrians, just like us, snapping pictures and collecting Christmas tree memories. Unfortunately, the crowds are overwhelming, making it challenging to wait for a clear shot without other people in it.
