It's funny to me how much of our world is public and yet we guard our privacy when it suits us. Have you heard that of Jack Sweeney’s jet-tracking accounts on Threads, which displayed publicly available data has been suspended.
The question is who really owns this information? Sweeney is not exactly digging up any secrets. The jet data he posts is publicly accessible and is provided by the FAA and yet somehow it crossed the line for some of the world's wealthiest. The rich usually love privacy when they’re exposed but they love transparency when it works for them. There's no honesty with these people.
It's definitely not going to be comfortable for anyone if they see their movements being broadcasted to millions. It doesn't matter wether you’re Elon Musk or Taylor Swift it's an awkward spot to be in.
But, if we think about it carefully, can we really say it's an invasion of privacy when the data is out there for anyone to find?
When I paid attention to that news I noticed that the outrage seems more about discomfort than an actual privacy violations. They call it stalking behavior, but is that any different from what celebrity news companies do trying to chase celebrities down for photographs?
I’m just wondering why simple Threads could lead to silencing Sweeney. We live in a time where ownership of your brand image is currency. That's the main reason why I choose a decentralized system where stuff like this doesn't happen to me.
