Companion // A couple's relationship that seemed to be perfect, but...

Greetings cinephile friends, today I want to tell you about a movie I saw last night and I found it a bit interesting and bizarre at the same time, but I am open to any production that takes me out of the routine. I'm talking about the movie “Companion” a 2025 sci-fi/horror production written and directed by Drew Hancock.

Here we meet 2 quite familiar actors, first of all, with Jack Quaid who is famous for being in the series The Boys since 2019, he is one of the protagonists. And to the also actress who is doing very followed roles in Hollywood Sophie Thatcher who is famous for the series Yellowjackets and the movie that by the way present recently reviewed here, Heretic. Both great actors, also an actor that I find very excellent is Lukas Gage who the first time I saw him was in The White Lotus and in the horror movie Smile 2. I find him very good and each person is well worked.

Now, I want to tell you my impression of this movie that at first I did not want to read the synopsis because I wanted to be surprised and I feel that sometimes the trailer also says too much about the movie giving some spoilers. If I have to say that for me it was quite interesting that the main character I mean Sophie Thatcher who plays the character “Iris” was a robot, wow she is a pretty advanced machine, because she can do everything like a human, love, have pain and cry, even adult scene that was unexpected, the fact is that one day Jack Quaid who is Josh in the movie needed “Company” and also had a macabre plan, he decided to rent this robot girl so he did the paperwork and came to her house.

A lot of things happened, he also started to develop a kind of attachment to her and of course this robot girl was the perfect woman, her programming was made for him to be her everything, to love him, to idealize him and to do everything for him. I tell you that as I saw it without any trailer or reading the synopsis there were parts where for example they end up going to a distant cabin with some friends and when he gets out of the car she carries all the bags and he carries nothing and that made me curious, but then I understood why, or once they were resting in bed she was telling him nice things and he said go to sleep, so he was turning her off, but at that moment I did not perceive it, I just thought he was a jerk.

A film a little bloody, with scenes a little hard, but I also found interesting some characters, such as Lukas Gage who was also an old edition robot and was the partner of a guy who really valued him and loved him, Patrick (Lukas Gage) did a good job and if I would like to ever give him a character where he can develop because the films where I have seen him have always been supporting roles and yet and that gives everything and highlights. The thing is that this is a movie where we can see how cold and calculating is the human being before the ambition and interest, it turns out that Iris the robot has been configured to commit a crime of murder against a millionaire man and keep his money, but things did not go as it should and the truth is that less bad, you can not be so ruthless.

It's a very normal movie, some predictable things I won't deny, but they give a little bit of difference to the robot girl as she has a lot of human things and she can't hate or stop loving Josh as this in her her love in him, so to speak. In fact, Josh himself who is the meanest and most malicious admits that he feels affection for her as he would tell her what she wanted to hear and he meant it because Iris was everything to him.

It is a film that I do not recommend it for children, there are some scenes a little violent, it is entertaining and has a slightly different air and there is also some black humor that gives it a rather peculiar and interesting plus. The punctuation I give it is a 6 /10.
