Caracas' Bolivar Square and surrounding area

I have mentioned in several of my posts in this community that I had the mission to someday go outside the borders of the city where I live to photograph places of architectural interest, and well, it seems that the time has come. A couple of days ago I moved to the city of Caracas to do some sightseeing and in that sense I had the opportunity to visit some important places in the capital city. There are numerous places to photograph, but I'm afraid that a single day would be insufficient to cover the long space of the city, plus the heavy traffic also makes it difficult to move from place to place.

So, right in the center of the city of Caracas, somewhere between Urdaneta avenue and Universidad avenue, is the Bolivar square, I have already mentioned in other posts that every city, town, no matter how remote, has a Bolivar square, and well, of course the capital city would not be the exception. My first impression is that this one is small considering the dimensions of the city, but I guess this is one of the oldest in the country and it had to stay as it was built at the beginning since there is no more space to expand it.

As you saw in the previous photos, the common areas are simple, there is a good space for walking and hanging out, and, as it usually happens in the squares of this country, there are many green areas and large trees. I must point out that even though the square is surrounded by buildings, you can breathe fresh air.

Next, you will see the usual statue of Simon Bolivar together with his horse, I say it is usual since in every Bolivar square there is a statue similar to this one, some are bigger and others are smaller. In the center of the base of the statue lie the words “The nation, grateful to its Liberator, erected this monument in 1874”, I must remember that Simon Bolivar is a Venezuelan hero recognized for liberating 5 countries in South America.

Next, you will see two structures that are around the square. One of them is the Archbishop's Palace, a yellow building that is characterized by the large number of wooden windows it has, the upper ones have small balconies while the lower ones have metal protectors. This palace is visually simple, but it is in an excellent state of preservation. On the other hand, you can see the Municipal Council of Caracas, this is a much more stylized building, with European architecture reminiscent of the colonial era, I really like the large white columns, the pedestal and arches at the top of the structure.

There are also other structures such as the Bolivar theater, the administrative building of the national assembly, the yellow house Antonio José de Sucre and the government building of the capital district, all of which are in good physical and maintenance condition.

So you saw images of Plaza Bolivar in Caracas, a meeting place for citizens where they can take a break from a city that is hectic and stressful. Soon I will share more structures of architectural interest in the city of Caracas, it was a trip that I took advantage of to record as many buildings as possible. See you soon!

This is a really beautiful area, to be honest, I loved the green of Bolivar square, as you say it is a place to spend a good time and through your photos you can feel the peace and tranquility of that place in the middle of the city. The times I have visited Caracas I have not had the opportunity to see it as closely as in this post. I love how various architectural styles are mixed in this area making it quite eclectic. Very nice post, dear Dina.
