Book Review : The palace of illusions πππ
I've always found Mythology fascinating, particularly when it comes to Indian mythology. Epics like the Ramayana and the Mahabharata are more than just tales; they are sources of wisdom and life lessons. I've delved into numerous simplified versions of these great Indian epics, but it struck me: what if we could experience these stories from the viewpoint of their main female characters, who were actually destiny makers? That's where "Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni" comes to the rescue.

In her remarkable work, she weaves a narrative that allows us to explore the Mahabharata through Draupadi's(Female lead) perspective. Her beautiful writing brings Draupadi's voice to the forefront, reminding us that the stories of female characters deserve to be heard and appreciated.
For those who donβt know, Mahabharata is one of the major Sanskrit epics of ancient India in Hinduism. It tells the story of two groups of cousins Kaurava and the Pandava in the Kurukshetra War and the fates of their successors.
Divakaruni's retelling brings Draupadi to life in a whole new way. She shows us Draupadi's thoughts, feelings, and struggles as she goes through the epic events. We see how Draupadi's birth is significant and how her destiny is intertwined with the kingdom of Hastinapura. From her lively swayamvara (a ceremony where she chooses her husband) to her marriage with the five Pandava brothers, her journey is full of strength and determination.
Divakaruni goes deep into Draupadi's emotions, showing us her friendships, her bond with her sisters, and her unwavering devotion to Lord Krishna
By focusing on Draupadi's perspective, Divakaruni reminds us of the power of women and their ability to shape destinies. Draupadi's story reveals her complex relationships with the Pandavas, her quest for justice, and her struggles against societal norms. Her retelling gives us a fresh understanding of the epic, challenging our assumptions and showing a new perspective.
Grab this if you are interested in mythological fiction and especially when you want to read from a totally different perspective.
