STREET ART #167 – Buenos Aires

avatar
(Edited)

Buenos Aires has so many murals spread out in the different districts. I haven't counted all the murals I saw, but it's hundreds. The variety in themes and size is just as amazing. I found these in the district of Palermo. Since our hotel was in Palermo, this is where we saw the most. We walked oround in this district, which was great when it comes to make all these dicoveries.

I have already done a couple of posts with a more political orientation. At the end of the time of the dictatorship most of the street art would have political slogans written on the paintings. But after the 80s this has changed.

This is a rather long wallpainting along one of the main streets in Palermo. A rather different theme and tecniques than most of what we saw. I don't know who the artist is. But rather cool to study all the details. Before the 1980s, many murals would have political messages and slogans. After the period of political unrest and the time when Argentina was ruled by a dictator, things changed. Only sometime after the 1980s did this change.

We saw several large murals with a political theme, but otherwise great variety. Many restaurants and shops have large, beautifully painted walls. Many of them had flowers, which is quite a contrast to the political murals. But then, they belong to another era.
