📸 PhotoFeed Contest - Black & White Photography #85 : The old teak bridge in Myanmar

The photo shows part of a wooden foot bridge called U Bein Bridge that crosses a lake in Amarapura. This small town is located a few kilometers south of Mandalay. I don’t know for sure, but it is believed to be the longest teak bridge in the world. Might be the oldest as well. The length is 1,2 kilometres. The building process started in 1849, so it is old. When building the bridge, they used wood that used to be part of a royal palace (Inwa). What impressed me the most, was the length and the fact that more than a thousand pillars make up this bridge. I did walk halfway, before returning back. Some of the pillars are broken and at places it seemed this could be dangerous. But as far as I know, the bridge is still standing. It’s important to the local people as a passage to the other side of the lake. But it’s also a tourist attraction.
