The Beer

Yeah, today I'm sharing my next experience from my Xmas Calendar. I got another great beer named Charles Quint. This is a „Belgian imperial blonde ale“ that commands respect from the first pour into my tasting glass.

The beer is named after Emperor Charles V (Charles Quint in French), who ruled over the Low Countries in the 16th century, means this beer carries a royal heritage in every bottle.

The Pour

I poured it into two my elegant tasting glasses from another brand, where it showed its beautiful golden amber color with a thick, creamy white head. Yummy!

The way it looked in the glass was really something - you could see right through that golden color, and the bubbles were dancing up like crazy. That thick white head on top? Yeah, that's what you want to see in a good beer.

The Tasting

This beer packs way more punch than your average lager. It's got this fuller feel to it, with some fruity flavors mixed in with a bit of spice, all sitting on top of a nice malty sweetness. Being an imperial beer means it's stronger - we're talking 8-9% alcohol here - so you definitely feel that warmth going down, and it sticks around for a while in a good way.

The Experience

The ceremonial aspect of pouring it properly into appropriate glassware enhanced the experience, allowing the aromas to develop and the head to form perfectly. Sharing it between two glasses made it feel like a proper tasting moment rather than just casual drinking.

Final Thoughts

Charles Quint is a classic example of Belgian brewing tradition that deserves mindful appreciation. The distinguished bearded figure on the label wearing imperial regalia perfectly captures the regal character of this exceptional ale.
