The Magic of Words

I have said here numerous times that Joseph Murphy with his book, The Power of Your Subconscious mind, changed my mindset. It changed the way I viewed the world, my environment and myself. That is one gift that unlocked the hunger that burns even today within me. From that book, I went to the next and the next after that because I had tasted the abstract and it carried power.

But, this book only introduced me to a world bigger than myself. It opened my eyes and I became aware of what I was missing. While Brian Tracy and Joseph Murphy started that chain reaction, I was catapulted to another level through audio tapes. In response to Day 3 of the November InLeo initiative, I’m writing about my top materials in sequence to the impact they had on me.

I was hungry for everything, still am, and that was when I heard Attitude by Rev. Chris Oyakhilome. This message restructured my mentality towards life and how I presented myself to people, to the world.

Then I listened to The Soundcode and the Spirit, again by Rev. Chris. Look, I don’t think growth can happen to the fullest until you accept that spirituality does exist. No one is saying go full throttle on religious fanatism, rather I am saying that the world was framed from nothing. If that is so, don’t you think that everything you see today has the ability to perceive, especially words? I do, which is why I am always crafting my environment with my words and my mind.

One other book I can never get out of my head is Mindset: The Psychology of Success by Carol S. Dweck. Through this book I understood what the word Grit truly meant. By putting to practise what I learned, I understood how atomical a growth mindset is as well as how destructive a fixed mindset is. Through this book, I was able to see my areas of weakness and work on them.

If I truly want to focus on a book that helped me grow, it would be The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by John C. Maxwell. One beautiful thing about this man’s books is that there is always a sheet for reflection. There is a section where you answer questions that are beneficial to you because when you truthfully write down those words, your journey towards betterment progresses.

I read as much as I can. I always make time to soak up words as they are the fuel to my imagination driven mind. When I dry up on words, I turn to m y materials. This is why I prefer books to movies. Movies give you the visual, the image whereas words make you exercise your brain. You create a mental image with each sentence, engraving it to your memory. This is why writing and reading are recognised as due procedures on the journey to success.

Oh don't get me started on books versus movies... So many movies wreck the book they are made from because the book is not sexy enough or whatever...

Hey that didn't fluffing happen in the book. Or Hollywood takes liberty by being factually inaccurate with their graphical description.

Take Braveheart for example the story about Scotland freedom and England, the main protagnists were Robert the Bruce and William Wallace. Hollywood have people in the film that debabtedly did not even exist at the same time. Not to mention William Wallace was a fluffing giant of a man, six foot six 800 hundred years ago is someone over seven foot now...

Who does Hollywood get to portray him?
Mel Gibson the bloody Aussie midget...

Okay here I am to comment on your books not have a fluffing rant!

I have always admired what you can draw from spiritually etc, I am all for taking thing on board no matter the origin. I also love you get out your wee notebook and write things down! That is growth in itself, so seeing the 15 thingys of growth it is no surprise that is with you at all times so to speak!

Great to read first thing in the morning and has me motivated for today sha!

Abeg keep it up!

Robert the Bruce

Is that the actual name?! It is soo confusing in my head, almost as if Batman's real name is actually Robert. But Robert is Bruce. Not just any Bruce. Robert is the Bruce

yeah funny you say about Batman and super heroes!

Robert the Bruce was in a cave plotting how to beat the English ... when down came a spider and told him so I always think of him as Spiderman!

But hell yeah Robert was the Brice lol

And that is also a reason I don't watch movies adapted from books. Annoying as fuck when they just revamp the whole thing!

I'm glad i motivated you. You and your slow arse. Hopefully you're out of bed now and doing something 👀

I would say "No Excuses", the book about self-discipline and somewhat time-management :)

That is also my favourite! It was also my first Brian Tracy book. As generic as it sounds, it re-screwed my brain.

Can't compare the wealth of knowledge in books with most films.

Been nibbling on some of John's books, and I find those introspective questions at the end of the chapters very handy and practical. Where'd you buy books from? Nice stack, Dera.

Yeah John is very good at creating momentum. I get them in bookstores. Either I go to town or I hit the one close by. Thank you

You know Dera I consider myself lucky to have found this part. I bought my first ever book in September 2024 and that was Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and I read The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, listened to the podcast of The Power of Your Subconscious Mind and I must confess that my life have been taking shape and I know more about what I want and where I want to go.
Fun fact is that I listen to financial and self development podcast more than music these days.. My favorites are Bob Proctor and Earl Nightingale.
And I enjoy my podcast whenever I am making art, it's always a subtle moment.
