Simply Coffee: I tried something new tonight thanks to TikTok.

Coffee in.png

Coffee shops are not common around here. In fact, I think the most coffee people drink here is 3-in-1 Nescafe brand and that is mostly because it is affordable. Other times – most times – families here in the north (middle class and below) go with boiling Lipton tea or Top Tea in a kettle to distribute in their homes.

I used to like Lipton when I was little and as a teenager but now, I can’t stand the taste. I have tried other tea brands (they are not cheap at all) and they are way better than Lipton. No hate here, I just can’t stand it.

But I don’t want to talk about Tea in this post even if I already did. I stumbled across a kind of recipe on TikTok for Coffee and thought, heck why not? I only had one of the ingredients missing and I felt I could do without it.

I have no idea what to call this type of coffee. Ice? Doesn’t really suit it because in the end it wasn’t that cold. You may be wondering why whoever came up with the recipe had no name for it. Well, I found it on TikTok and I forgot to leave a comment asking. But what the hell? I am not coffee literate. Maybe y’all would know what it is called?

Anyway. This was the coffee recipe I found:

  • 2 Tablespoons full of coffee powder
  • 3 Tablespoons full of sugar
  • Milk
  • Coconut Milk
  • ½ 250ml Iced water

So, I had no coconut milk and made do with what I had which is the milk. I wanted to add in creamer but I wasn’t sure.

Take your coffee power and pour into a container just like this…

Then add your sugar…

And then your ice water…

Shake it (like you made it) for five to seven minutes straight… and it would look like this…

Let me say this. Half the time in the beginning as I made this, I did not expect a good turnout. Beginner’s luck and all that. But surprisingly, it came out good.
Now, pour your desired quantity into a cup or mug of your choice…

Add in your milk (and coconut milk if you have any) …

Insert straw and stir…

Oh wow. It doesn’t look exactly like what I saw in the video, but it is not bad at all!

A taste? It was really good! Mom loved it more and I made her another cup. Ha! I think I found my favourite coffee beverage. Does anyone know the name?

I will be signing off here. I look forward to trying things as simple as this. Thank you very much for reading. If you do happen to try it, please let me know what you think of it. Also, is there anything I could add to make it taste better? Any secrets you want to share?

I always prepare my coffee with these ingredients and without the coconut milk, but I think the difference is that I don’t shake.

It looks nice and I don’t know what they call it but it is great to try new things out.

Oh this is not even a normal way to make coffee. Do you make yours with cold water? I normally just pour hot water into a cup and drink.

With those ingredients you can call it a latte, It is very delicious by the way, combined with sweets it tastes great. It's a coffee with milk. I hope it helps you, greetings

Oh this is latte? Wonderful! It had a sort of bitter-sweet taste that I really loved. I look forward to trying more of these things.

For me it is, it must be the taste of the milk, which gives it the sour taste. I hope you enjoy it

It's interesting that you make this with cold water, and that it involves so much shaking... I'm guessing some reaction from that must make it thicker? Looks really good! ☕️
