A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words, Or, Exactly Fifty: What a Difference a Day Makes

Source

What I see: A room full of desks and chairs
What I feel: I was never in university classes that big, but that has that big state university feel in the outbuildings that are basically there because enrollment is out of control. I know what that looks like. The fact that every chair is where it needs to be suggests a meticulous mind ... perhaps late in May.

The day after the semester ended … the day after the last semester Professor Rollins would ever teach.
His step echoed hollowly, alone, missing the voices of hundreds of beloved students.
He straightened every chair, as always.
“I always want for the younger generation all that I wanted for myself.”

“I always want for the younger generation all that I wanted for myself.”

As a retired classroom teacher, as a human being who was in those empty spaces when the semester ended, I feel perfectly what you want to convey with that sentence. Happy Mother's Day, a hug full of blessings.

A hug full of blessings returned to you, from a middle school teacher in yesteryear who is still straightening up chairs after Sunday School and choir rehearsal...
