A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words (Or, Exactly Fifty): The Thousand-Mile Stare

What I see: A middle-aged man, his hand and face weary and worn, but strong, because the sinews in that had are pronounced. His eyes are vivid -- he is healthy physically, and my guess that is he is a working man at the end of his workday, five-o-clock shadow and all.

What I feel: I'm glad I'm not looking at what he is looking at. Sadness and resignation over way too much seen...

Reality often differs from fantasy.
He thought he would feel vindicated as the factory was closed and the CEO led away in handcuffs.
Yet lost friends were not coming back, and he still needed to make a living.
The justice he was looking for still seemed a thousand miles away.

A short story with an interesting open ending, I was left wanting a second part to find out what happens to the worker and his companions. I liked how you interpreted the image. Greetings, @deeanndmathews 🤗.

Thank you for reading ... yes, I did leave it open because in such cases there is so much that we do not get to know ... what happens to people after a company collapses and only partial justice is done and the story leaves the news?

Responsibilities of a man.. I guess there's more to the story than the eyes can see🙂

Indeed ... that picture just said so much ... why it can be hard for men to heal...

Lines of a very crude reality that all those with sad looks experience and a sorrow that falls before their eyes.

Thanks for sharing.
Good day.

I could read the state of his mind from thpis short atory. Hope he gets an earlier justice for what he is seeking.

That's how it frequently works. We think if the snake in the grass is removed it's safe, next we deal with a problem we could have seen coming but forgot while fighting for our rights.

YEP ... that's exactly how it is. I was thinking of a specific case here in the United States ... the workers at Enron Corporation went through this ... they will have to work until they are too old to do so ...
