A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words (Or, Exactly Fifty): The Secrets Flowing Through Bamboo Shades and Open Space

What I see: a very young man working on his laptop. He has brought his backpack, some rolling suitcases, and a big beverage with him. It may be that someone else may have the backpack, but is absent for the moment. I presume also this is a hot and humid tropical climate because of how he is dressed, and also because the edge of the fake turf is peeling and warping. I presume it is overcast, because the light is even and silvery, and the bamboo shades are still rolled up. My guess is that this is a modern college or corporate campus, on a weekend.

What I feel: I am reminded by this diligent young man of why I loved early-morning and summer college classes, why I loved working swing shift, and why I love hiking open college campuses to this day on Saturdays and during winter and summer breaks.

Swing shift from 3pm to 11pm on summer weekends made no sense to anyone but him.

They did not know the secrets of bamboo shades, open space, and the speed of the internet at that time. No noise online or off; just like minds in peace, and him in productivity.

Early morning college classes and swing shifts certainly offer unique opportunities for solitude and focus, much like the tranquil environment depicted in the photo.

I also loved early-morning. It is kind of painful not to enjoy and cherish the calmness 😓

Indeed the speed of internet makes a huge difference. Fi gets crossed no one finds out.

The good thing about times like that ... most people are too stuck in their habits to change their ways ... so that internet speed is (probably) secure!
