A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words (Or, Exactly Fifty): A Pea Pod Can Tell You About Yourself...

What I see: a princess of African descent in a silver tiara and green dress, looking with drooping eyes in the light of dawn at a pea pod in a room full of bedding and with apples and grapes (or smaller apples or green plums) all around.

What I feel: As a Black woman, I know exactly my response if I am a royal, and somebody put me through finding that peapod -- the history of Queens Amanirenas, Nzinga, and Nandi says THAT AIN'T WHAT YOU WANT!

“Well I'll be! You really are a princess! With all the apples and grapes I put in the bedding, you still found the pea pod!”

“And you really are a frog, having put me through all that! Be gone, wretch, and on pain of death, never appear in Gondwanaland again!”

Ancestral whispers,
Strength woven through history,
Dreams bloom like roses.
