2 March 2026, Freewriters Community Daily Writing Prompt Day 3030: neglect

“Yeah, that part about not loving the world system and the things in the world system is off the beaten path even for Christians, Lieutenant, but let me make it easier for you to understand. Three of my seven grandchildren underwent severe neglect in the world system and no one had trouble with it as long as that foster care money kept coming in. But it would be no different if I hung on to this company for the money it will make in future and do not put the time in with my eight that they need – yes, eight. I adopted my baby cousin out of a bad situation since you last saw me.”

Lt. G.H. Truss took the phone away from his ear from the phone and shook his head to clear it because he could not believe what he was about to say to Capt. R.E. Ludlow.

“This is weird but it is making sense to me whereas three months ago it wouldn't have,” he said, “and that means it's even weirder.”

“When the things of God begin to make more sense than the things of the world, you are making progress in your faith, Lieutenant. But you might also consider some solid math on the sale of the two parts of the Ludlow Bubbly!”

This began the first conversation on finance and faith G.H. Truss had since his boyhood days being raised by his grandfather … to G.H. Truss Sr., there had been no dividing place, and that same wisdom flowed from Capt. Ludlow. The lieutenant could not get enough, and had not even reckoned the time – a whole hour – before it was over, and the younger man had pages of notes about what to do about money in heaven and earth.

“Don't neglect Matthew 6:33, Lieutenant. He said right there, 'Seek my kingdom and my righteousness and all the things you need will be added to you' – in other words, if we handle His business correctly, He also will handle ours. I have never known Him to neglect keeping his promise – He will open doors of opportunity for you that no one else has seen or can see!”

“I'm actually starting to see this in my life – I'm not going to lie and say it has been easy to be a Christian and try to walk this thing out, but … but I do see the Lord directing my path as I go, without needing me to detour into the ways I used to in order to make sure I have the right resources!”

“We have a good Commander in Chief,” Capt. Ludlow said. “Whatever He orders, He will supply – we can travel light and as fast as He orders, or slowly but still unburdened, knowing that. Welcome to the understanding of why I don't need to hang on to the Ludlow Bubbly, but can let it make others richer than I will be from its sale.”

After the conversation, the lieutenant got in his car and drove into Tinyville, VA, and then walked a block or two, then across a field … and, a long way off, he could see a white-haired older man and auburn-mixed-with silver-haired older woman with one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and eight small children just buzzing around them in the backyard of their home. Lots of little interactions … lots of love as the afternoon wound down and the eight little Ludlows were actually being gathered in for dinner.

“I see it, Lord,” the lieutenant said. “What could anyone give in exchange for that? No amount of money can buy love – I see it.”
