Diy process of designing traditional/cultural wear, for my little princess
Hello hive.
Happy new week and a beautiful Wednesday to you all in this great community @needleworkmonday I hope you all had a lovely and beautiful day yesterday. It's another productive Wednesday in this community where we come to show our creativity, as we come to learn, support and encourage ourselves on what we know how to do best. Today, I bring to you the making of this cultural Wear. it her cultural day in they school they were told to dress in the native way to represent they culture.
We love to uphold our culture and teach it to our children. With this wear, she can take some photographs, and while growing up, she will equally be learning about the dressing style, food, language, and others. Catching them young has been the key. If they grow up not being taught about any of these, our beautifully inherited cultural heritage will soon go into extinction. We have such numerous tribes and languages in our country, and this outfit is the traditional wear for our Yoruba cultural group.
To make this outfit, we make use of the "Ofi or Ankara,"
For today I am showing us how to cut and sew this stylish Buba will iro skirt
for the achievement of the outfit I used two different fabric of the wrapper skirt that will be on her waist I make use of Ankara fabric, and for the bubu blouse it was use with duchess fabric.
So let begin with the cutting processing*
starting with the Buba blouse
The blouse is often cut together with a part of the sleeve. For that
I folded the fabrics into 4.
Measured out a neckline of 3 by 3 since am working with small measurement. The neckline will depend on the measurement you are dealing with.
Then I measured out a calculation of both the shoulder and sleeve length together so far the sleeve area am working with is not straight no need of joining another part with it". Her blouse length was measured, and then the chest line. These were alld, and then I cut out.
Since I folded it in 4 parts, both the front and back were cut at the same time with the same neckline measurements. This is how to cut our traditional "buba" blouse.
Next is the "wrapper skirt", which I fold the fabric into two to cut the front block skirt before the wrapper at the front.
Then I into the waistline, hipline and full length move to the vertical measurement. waist of 22, hip of 25 the full length is 23. divided the waist and hip by 4 from the down part I subtract 2 from the hip measurement and I connect those point and cut. for the back block placed the front on another fold Ankara then I kept 2inches away before placing the front block on the back that will serve as zipper allowance cut it out.
For the sewing, I started with taping the edges of the blouse neck with white bias strip. The weaved material edges and join the sides and hem.
wrapper processing
i cut out another front block making it two, for the wrapper I opened up one front block and Mark out the accruate measurement of her waist and cut it straight down because the wrapper will stop at the tip of her waist on the left side.
for the sewing of the skirt I turn it with lining first and put it aside to work with wrapper, I make a pleat from the waist to the hip then I cut width of 15inches and length of 20inches then take it sew machine to pleat on the skirt.
After that I joined the side seam allowance of the skirt and attached bet to the wrapper and to the other part of skirt to form a bow at the back.
