THE MANNEQUIN COULD NEVER! THE CLIENT BROUGHT THE DRESS TO LIFE
Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗
I have always been of the opinion that mannequins are useful but they simply cannot bring out the actual beauty of a well designed outfit the way a real person can. The statement above has never been more convincing or accurate than with this arewa-inspired skirt and blouse. The mannequin was very far from doing justice to the beauty, elegance and structure of this piece.
The beauty of the outfit was well showcased the moment my client wore and shared these stunning pictures with me. Well, out of her privacy I have covered her face in the images i shared in this post, nevertheless you can still feel the aura the outfit exudes.
This masterpiece is an arewa-inspired skirt and blouse made with ankara fabrics and tastefully accessorised with asooke fabrics in strategic areas like the middle panel of the blouse, the two sleeves and the bottom of the skirt. One of the most talked about features of the outfit is what I will describe as the artificial hips effect that starts from the waistline and curving towards the hips. This detail that was carefully structured creates a hourglass silhouette that gives the person wearing it a queenly and majestic sculpted look.
Another standout detail in the outfit is the use of asooke fabrics which is known to be a fabric attributed to affluence worn by by the wealthy and influential people in Yoruba land during major events in those days. While traditionally it is used to make full regalia for both men and women, in modern day fashion it can be subtly used to elevate the look of outfits.
Though some people still use it to make full outfits till date but they are mostly used to make traditional outfits for weddings, birthdays and the likes. Take a closer look at the front panel of the blouse where the asooke is split from the waistline down to the knees. Can you spot it? It is a classy and calculated feature that brings elegance and demurity when you walk by.
Also, in the picture shared by my customer you can see how she was able to style her outfit with a matching gele (head tie). The matching head tie adds another extra layer of traditional beauty that completely brings out the essence of the outfit. This something the mannequin would not show.
The skirt and blouse combination is not your typical pair that is common. The blouse extends below the knees which clearly deviates from the norm of the conventional waist-length styles. This style of blouse is commonly seen in Northern Nigeria fashion which indeed adds a layer of modesty yet stylish drip to the look.
Taking a quick detour to the opening paragraph of this post, I always get excited when customers send me feedback with pictures. It is during those moments that I assess my work to pinpoint any errors or applaud myself for a job well done. Mannequins might be useful to hold your outfit but it is the customers that truly showcase the beauty in a dress.
The arewa-inspired skirt and blouse is a combination of culture, structure and modern fashion. The feedback I got from my client was an affirmation that your customer is the best model for every custom-made outfit. I use to urge all my customers to share pictures with me but saldy maybe due to privacy reasons some of them don't.
Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
