Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗

In this post I will be sharing how to make a two piece crop top and baggy trousers with X-shaped rope design on the two sides of the trousers.

This two piece is very stylish and can be rocked to both casual and formal outings. It is one of the designs that are in vogue now especially in the Nigerian female fashion.

Measurements for top

  • Shoulder- 15"
  • Top length - 20"
  • Bust - 36"
  • Waist - 32"

Measurement for baggy trousers

  • Hip - 40"
  • Trouser length - 42"
  • Crotch - 32"
  • Waist - 32"
  • Lap - 50"

Materials Needed

  • 4 yards ankara fabric
  • 5 press buttons
  • Hemming gum
  • Matching threads
  • Tailoring chalk
  • < 1 yard of interfacing

Step by Step

  • Start by drafting the crop top by using the following measurements: shoulder - 15", bust - 15", waist - 32", top length - 20", and add 1.5" for seam allowance.

  • Next, cut out your front piece and back piece. To cut the front piece, cut it into two pieces to allow for the button strip where the button and buttonholewill be sewn. Also, add 2" at the center of each pieces in the front for the button and buttonhole flap respectively.

  • Next, cut out your short sleeves and add seam allowance as well. Then draft your collar and ensure it fits the neckline circumference (16" in my case). Now, use interfacing to give the collar a neat finishing.

  • After that is done, move to sewing the shoulder seams of the front and back pieces, then attach the collar.

  • Next, attach the sleeves to the armholes and sew the side seams of the top neatly and give it a good finishing.

  • Now, fold and stitch the button strip on the front piece, mark the buttonholes on one side and the button on the other side. I will be using a press button for this top.

  • Then I hem the bottom of the crop top using hemming gum by folding it and giving it a good press.

  • Now, let's continue by working on the baggy trousers. We will be using the following measurements to draft the trousers: hip -40", waist - 32", lap - 50", and trouser length- 42".
    1000194324.jpg

  • Start by cutting two front and two back trouser pieces. Ensure you add adequate width to accommodate the rope design feature on each side. I used 30" divided by 2 which is 15" from the lap down to the hemline/ankle.

  • Next, cut waistband for the trousers that will fit the 32" waist. Then sew the front and back pieces together at the sides and inseams. After you are done with that join the crotch.
    1000194329.jpg

  • To create the rope feature, sew a small casing of 1.5" wide on fold making a total of 3". Sew and iron it then lay the trouser on a flat surface and iron properly from the knee line, go in by two inches down to the hem line.

  • Cut it out, then use a bias to sew the edges then bring the black rope we made earlier use it to make an X sign, securing this with pins before going to the machine to sew it down.
    1000194339.jpg

  • I made 3 X sign on each leg both left and right and use a remaining black fabric to cover the hem line of about 6".

  • Hem the trousers neatly and give the seams a good press.

  • Your two piece crop top and baggy trousers with X-shaped rope design on the two sides of the trousers is ready.

Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
