HOW I HELPED MY MOM BOOST HER POULTRY BUSINESS SALES WITH A FEW PHONE CALLS WHEN I VISITED HER OVER THE WEEKEND

This past weekend was such an eventful one for me - from closing from work on Saturday evening to taking a short trip to my parents' house to drop off my son, doing some chicken business and returning back to my base. Well, let me put through the details one after the other. Stay tuned and grab your popcorn. It is gist time.

After I closed from work on Saturday I took my son to my parents' house where he will be spending his holidays after having wrapped up his examinations last week. With school on break, he will be spending a few weeks with his grandparents who were happy to have him around. You needed to see the joy on his grandma's face when she saw him. The house was already filled with so much energy that only a toddler can create. She'd definitely not have a boring or lonely moment for the next couple of weeks.

We had some moments to catch-up on all long overdue gists about what has been happening in the house, neighbourhood and all. We indeed had a good time speaking about everything we had missed. So, later that evening when she wanted to feed her chicken we took a stroll there together. You might remember from my post some weeks ago where I shared her poultry with you when the chicken were much younger. Well, they have grown now and they are up for sale. But, she expressed her concerns about not being able to sell the remaining ones and the cost of feeding them was beginning to weigh her down

Seeing the situation, I knew I had to make some moves to assist her in selling the chickens, some if not all. I already had the intention of buying about two even before she told me about the lack of sales. So, I picked my phone and called some friends and neighbours to let them know that we have broiler chickens for sale and I followed up with pictures of the chicken so they see what I'm talking about.

To my greatest delight, three people out of about eight people that I called showed interest. One of them want two, while the others wanted one each. That means she's making sales of about six chicken already. My mum was so elated to hear the news and I can see the relief on her face.

We'd need to process the chicken because we can't send live chicken, so we began slaughtering, defeathering and washing the chickens. Then we packaged them in nylon bags and it will be sent to two of the using dispatch riders while I will be delivering the last one by myself since I live close to the person. I had to cut mine into small sizes and which will be packed in ziplock bags and kept in my freezer. It should last us for more than a month.

Not to forget that before we started slaughtering and defeathering the chicken I also assisted her in feeding the chicken a d giving them water. Thankfully the number of feeds the rest chicken will be consuming have reduce and we're hopeful that she sell off the rest soon so she can prepare to raise a new batch.

I must confess the whole process was not an easy one but the major thing is that I'm glad I was able to support my mother and promote her business.
