Child labor is common around the world today and it seems the issue is not being well addressed enough as it should be. There are children on the streets engaging in one kind of job or the other when they are meant to be in school studying for a better future. Education is vital to the growth and development of every child and they should not be denied of this right at their early stage. Some parents choose to use their kids to make money on the streets, factories and even in other people's home instead of enrolling them in school.

The importance of education in our society can not be underated because it is the tool that ensure a fair chance to getting opportunities. There are educated people around the world today who are finding it difficult to get job or other opportunities not to talk of someone who isn't educated at all. In order to be in contenttion with the numerous opportunities around us we need to equip our children with some level of education. In other words, these children that are denied education will have their access to good opportunities hindered in one way or the other.

In some cases, some children have to juggle working with education. Imagine how poorly a child that have to hawk snacks or water in the morning before going to school and after returning from school will perform. These activities will affect them mentally and physically. In some cases, they may have to miss school for some days and the days they manage to be in school, its either they are not concentrating or sleeping due to the overload of work that is too much for their age.

Poverty is one of the major factors that make parents use their children for child labor. When parents do not have enough financial capacity to take care of the family, they make use of their children to make more money. Also, some parents also have the archaic mentality that the Girl child is not good for any other thing than Marriage; so there is no point wasting money on her to go to school. Therefore, she can start working as early as possible while the boy child goes to school. She may be sent to work as a maid/househelp in other people's house in return for money (that she doesn't even have access to).

Some times when you drive by at the peak of school hours when children are supposed be in school is when you'd see some kids hawking drinks, snacks and so on inside the hot harsh weather. It is not a wrong act to be a supportive child to your parents but it is wrong when youbare doing it at the wrong time and when what you're doing is endangering you as a child. There are some works that children are not supposed to do at all because of the risk attached to it.

These children may be exposed to miscreants who may lure them into dangerous areas and take advantage of them. They may also be exposed to bad friends that will influence their life negatively by initiating them hooligalism, prostitution, truancy, etc. A child hawking on the street can easily get knocked down by a moving vehicle if care is not taken. All these dangerous exposure at a young age can shape the life of a child. Therefore, as parents and guardians we must ensure we enroll our kids in school and ensure they don't engage in tasks that are risky for their age.
